Our “Tool Time” shower was very successful. After a couple of delays in delivery, the shed arrived during the shower. Those present were able to witness the unloading and positioning of the shed. It couldn’t have turned out better if we had planned it! Thank you everyone. If anyone would like to contribute new or lovingly used tools at any time, just contact me or Yancey. I recently was sent a number of tunnel pictures. I’m including a couple of them in this newsletter and future copies. I hope you enjoy them as much as I do..

Yancey Smith – I hope you all saw the newspaper article in the April 23rd Messenger re our workday April 14 with the children from Sue Glidewell's Pre-K North Elementary class. With able help of her aide, Mindy Burton, altogether we planted 166 wildflowers. The children were delightful and seemed to enjoy putting their hands in the soil. Hopefully we will inspire future gardeners, and that they will get their parents to come see their work. After they left we fertilized, mulched, and dressed them nicely. CHC members who worked: Barbara Berger, Topper Maxey, Jerry Powell, Nan Turner, Jim Upchurch and me. We also moved a few rocks to our butterfly hillside. Pat Ewalt made the suggestion a year or so ago that perhaps we should consider adding rocks to the steepest section of the butterfly garden! Much gratitude is due those hard workers, so on behalf of us all ……. Thank You!

Cliff & Stacy Matkins - So far this year, our committee has focused on normal Spring chores at
the Square. We hand pulled all the largest weeds in the beds and sprayed Roundup on the
remainder. We also pruned the Knockout Roses. (Thanks to Yancey for arranging for the clippings
to be hauled away). Lastly, we spread lime and weed-killing fertilizer on the grass. We plan to
have a workday soon to place more pine straw on the beds and possibly to add several more
boxwoods to fill spaces where they are missing.
Nell Page - The Boxwood at the Memorial Garden are looking wonderfully lush. We are planning a
maintenance and pruning day in early June. I will advise my group once we have a date.
Kaye Milner - Courthouse Garden The pruning and shrubbery trimming has been completed. Three old rose bushes hidden behind shrubbery were removed and leaves were cleaned out from under shrubs. Weed spray and Preen have been applied. We will be re-doing the planter in the alley soon. Many thanks to the town maintenance crew for reconnecting the power source so electric trimmers could be used, and to Doug Barker for his help in removing the debris. Pat Ewalt cleaned the bricks on the walkways and added more sand.
