The Castrol EDGE Winternationals was set for a stunning conclusion over the weekend – until the wet weather that has played havoc with the ANDRA Pro Series

during season 2010/2011 struck again.

Sunday saw some magnificent racing across all categories – only to get to finals Sunday afternoon and a downpour occurred, leaving officials with no choice but to abandon the meeting.

A huge crowd turned out for the Sunday event, despite the inclement weather in the lead up to it.

The big winner was Queensland local – Aaron Tremayne who wrapped up his fourth consecutive Australian Pro Stock Championship. Its no mean feat given Pro Stock is the only ANDRA Pro Series category with a full 16-car field and regularly attracts in excess of 20 competitors.

In Top Fuel, Castrol-backed Darren Morgan was on a sparkling

run into the finals – depositing both Rapisarda Racing cars in American Cory McClenathan and Mark Mariani in a pair of four second passes. He was scheduled to race Damien Harris in the Final.

Top Doorslammer saw Castrol-backed Ben Bray’s resurgence continue until the semi-finals where he was knocked out by Mark Belleri. Belleri was due to take on top qualifier Peter Kapiris in the Final.

V8 Supercars engine guru, Jamie Noonan made it into the Final of Top Alchohol – it was his first ever race meet in any form of competition and the Queenslander was looking good to take it out.

It was a disappointing end to the 44th annual Castrol EDGE Winternationals. The qualifying and lead-up had seen Willowbank Raceway in best ever form. Drivers, crews and fans deserved to have a conclusion, however Mother Nature once again ruled.

The Castrol-backed Kelly Racing team have signed two European GT aces for the upcoming Armor All Gold Coast 600 on the streets of Surfers Paradise, with Richard Westbrook and Jorg Bergmeister joining Todd and Rick Kelly respectively.

Westbrook is currently racing in the GT-1 World Championship aboard a Nissan

GTR and is a former double Porsche Supercup Champion. As a factory driver for Corvette’s GT program, he is no stranger to rear wheeled drive V8 racecars.

Bergmeister’s credentials are equally as impressive. Also a former Porsche Supercup champ, he is a contracted Porsche factory driver and has taken victory for the marque

at many of the world’s biggest endurance races, including Le Mans, Sebring, Daytona, Spa and Road Atlanta.

The pair will ably back up the Kelly boys in the Jack Daniel’s Commodores on the streets of Surfers Paradise and don’t be surprised if they broach the top step of the podium come chequered flag time.

Castrol EDGE kicked off the Wallabies campaign in style at ANZ Stadium in Sydney over the weekend – however the result wasn’t what the new partnership was looking to yield.

The Wallabies – in their first test of 2011 – went down to the unfancied Samoans 32-23. The

Wallabies were down by 17-10 in the first half and weren’t able to bridge the gap.

Coach, Robbie Deans is expected to make some changes ahead of this weekend when the South Africans arrive in Australia for the first of the Castrol EDGE Tri-Nations affairs once again in Sydney at ANZ Stadium.

BMW has taken the wraps off its brand new Castrol EDGE-backed challenger for the DTM Championship.

The stunning matte black machine – which presents a ‘likeness’ of what the actual racecar will look like.

Former World Touring Car Champion, Andy Priaulx and Brazilian livewire, Augusto Farfus have been confirmed as the spearheads for the Munich manufacturer’s campaign.Three teams, including long time BMW tuners, Schnitzer will run the Castrol EDGE backed cars.

“The BMW M3 DTM Concept Car is an important milestone on

our route to the start of the 2012 season. The roll-out of the car was successful, and we are now starting our test programme out on the track,” said BMW Motorsport Director, Jens Marquardt.

“Drivers Andy Priaulx and Augusto Farfus are also involved and will form part of our driving line-up in 2012. Their impressive performances in touring car and GT racing make them ideally suited to the DTM, and we are sure they will leave their mark on this series too.

“It is obviously just as important to have strong partners on board, and we were able to present some of them today. The pieces are fitting together perfectly, so we can definitely say: our preparations for the 2012 season are going according to plan.”

TRUST SYNTHETICS TRUST CASTROL EDGE THE SPECIALISTS WHEN IT COMES TO EXTREME POWER & PERFORMANCE

WHY SYNTHETIC OILS?Get the best protection for your engine by choosing a high quality synthetic oil. Synthetic oils offer significant advantages over mineral oils.

HIGH TEMPERATURE STABILITY: Synthetic oils are able to withstand higher operating temperatures under which mineral oils begin to break down. Synthetic oils provide optimum lubrication at extreme temperatures reducing wear and extending engine life.

FASTER LUBRICATION ON COLD STARTS: Synthetic oils remain more fluid at cold start up temperatures, circulating faster to protect moving parts within the engine. Because synthetic oils flow quicker, the engine reaches optimal operating efficiency sooner. Mineral oils on the other hand, tend to thicken in colder temperatures making the engine less efficient.

BETTER EVERYDAY PROTECTION: Synthetic oils are most resistant to the chemical degradation that comes with everyday driving. Synthetic oils provide better protection for your engine under normal as well as arduous driving conditions, minimising oil degradation and protecting against harmful deposits.

WHY CASTROL EDGE?At Castrol we know a thing or two about synthetic engine oil. In fact, we developed the very first fully synthetic racing oil. We’ve poured over 100 years of experience and lubricant technology into Castrol EDGE, the best engine oil we’ve ever made.

PROVEN PERFORMANCE IN EXTREME CONDITIONS: Castrol EDGE is able to withstand higher operating temperatures under which other engine oils begin to break down. Tests prove that even after blasting an engine at 340ºC, it is still running 72 hours later.

Castrol EDGE will also protect your engine at start up with its superior cold flow properties. At -55ºC Castrol EDGE still flows while the competitor synthetic oil has almost solidified.

Castrol EDGE’s synthetic technology provides outstanding protection at extreme temperatures, reducing wear and extending the life of your engine.

MAXIMUM POWER FOR LONGER: Get the best performance out of your engine by choosing Castrol EDGE. Tests prove that Castrol EDGE delivers maximum horsepower for up to 45% longer than competitor synthetic oils.

*Castrol EDGE Sport 25W-50 is a high performance mineral oil.
