MODULE 3
Case Study: Unit/Lesson Plan
Standards & Assessment
(200 pts) What is the Assignment?
Outline a unit plan with at least 5 lessons.
1. Choose a unit in your CTE Field to teach to your Case Study:
If you are currently in Practicum ED 295B, use this assignment to develop
your unit plan for your solo teaching. Discuss with your Cooperating Teacher
upcoming units and choose one to focus on.
If you are NOT currently in Practicum ED 295B, then you would choose any
unit in your CTE field that you think you might teach for ED 295B.
Since you know your Case Study’s background and development very well
now, it is important to choose something that is developmentally appropriate
and interesting to your Case Study.
Plan to teach your Case Study AFTER you have submitted your unit/lesson
plan and received feedback from your instructor (if appropriate). That will
happen at the beginning of Module 4 and then you will have until the end of
Module 4 to teach your unit/lesson plan to your Case Study.
2. Write out the objectives and assessments for the unit/lesson plans for what you
want to teach your Case Study. Use Unit Plan Outline (see template below) to
complete the following sections:
SECTION 1: Standards & Objectives
SECTION 2: Assessments
3. Provide a rationale for your unit/lesson plan that addresses the following:
How did your students’ interest, development, background, and/or prior
knowledge inform your unit/lesson plan design?
How did your colleagues and/or families inform your unit/lesson plan design?
Plan ahead: You have 2 weeks to complete this assignment
Submission: Submit to Laulima Assignments by the due date handout found in Modules.

Example #1
Why Are We Doing This Assignment?
The “bread and butter” of teaching is developing a unit/lesson plan that will help guide you
to accomplish your learning objectives. Because our lesson plans are now “standards-based”,
which means that the students’ score is based solely on whether they demonstrate the
standard or learning objective, it is important to know how to create those types of lessons.
