Case Study: Russian Consulting Company
This client is a company headquarted in Russia providing educational and consulting services to a num-
ber of different sectors, identifying the training needs of companies in different industries and finding
solutions for their individual needs. The client has many customers in the energy industry requiring in-
tensive English courses for management and also for industry specific language.
Challenge
Our challenge was to design intensive English courses for employees in different roles working in the
energy industry and specifically adapt the materials used to the client’s needs.
Response
Professional Language Solutions used their experience in the energy industry to design course materi-
als specifically for this client on a one-to-one and small group basis. Using a range of online materials,
management reports and extracts from our own book – “English for the Energy Industries” we designed
courses comprising a mixture of management skills vocabulary and industry specific vocabulary.
Courses were adapted to the candidates’ requirements, and included areas such as:
the language used in negotiations and presentations, HR and interviewing skills as well as industry spe-
cific language. Specific energy-related topics included health & safety, jobs in the industry, offshore
roles and descriptions, ownership, leasing and company representation, exploration terminology &
shipping terminology. Candidates discussed developments in the oil and gas industry as well as the
latest trends in this area.
We used tutors for these courses with significant experience working with Professional Language Solu-
tions in energy locations around the world.
Our membership of the Energy Institute meant that we were able to provide certificates both from Pro-
fessional Language Solutions and from the Energy Institute at the end of the course.
