CASE STUDY Idera SQL Diagnostic Manager at the Jeroen Bosch Hospital

The JB hospital is responsible for a care area of

360,000 inhabitants. The hospital was created through

a merger between the Bosch Medical Center and

Carolus-Liduina Hospital in 2002. Currently there are

four branches. The hospital is the largest employer in

the region and has 4,000 employees and 240 medical

specialists. They serve more than 500,000 outpatient

visits and 60,000 hospital admissions each year.

The problem

5 years ago, the need for an SQL Server Management

tool began to grow. At that time, one DBA was

responsible for managing 25 servers. The maintenance

was a tedious task as it happened with self-written

scripts. As a result, the DBA could only act reactively

and it was impossible to undertake preventive actions.

All of this created the need for software that would

facilitate and improve the server management.

The solution

A project was set up with the aim of testing several

software tools and to compare them so as to achieve

higher efficiency from each DBA. They researched

several software packages on different criteria such as

performance, usability, price, etc. Idera Diagnostic

Manager came out of the equation as the strongest

product on the market.

The result

Thanks to Idera's SQL Diagnostic Manager, the

DBA’s can now act proactively. For 5 years

already, the Jeroen Bosch Hospital uses Idera

SQL databases operational. Meanwhile, the IT

department has grown to 65 employees, of which

two DBA’s are responsible for 75 SQL servers.

Over the years, the DBA’s are very satisfied with

the updates of Diagnostic Manager, and they feel

that Idera is making the proper adjustments to

assist in their analysis.
