Water damage caused by 70 leaking windows threatened structural integrity during freeze-thaw cycles. Lead and asbestos were present. Solution Existing waterproofing was abated on two of the four exterior walls. Cracks in the concrete building were aesthetically resolved using ARDEX TWP™ Tilt Wall Patch prior to installing ARDEX ARDICOAT™ PLUS. All existing windows were removed. The chipped out window openings were treated with ARDEX BACA™, then formed out with 1/4 to 1 inch of ARDEX B 20™, with the final coat being ARDEX ARDICOAT™ PLUS MESH to waterproof the opening. ARDICOAT™ PLUS MESH was then used to waterproof both sides of the building. The finish coat is paint. ARDEX B 20 was also used in several other areas to repair concrete that was removed during abatement on architraves and concrete features. Products were installed with a slightly “sloppy” finish to replicate the texture and character of the exterior of the building prior to the remodel, and to maintain the original look. “There was structural damage to the building,” said ARDEX Sales Pro Jon Esteve. “Through diligent work with Western Architectural, we were able to secure the specification with the architect, ensuring all repair products used on site were ARDEX.” 888-512-7339 www.ardexamericas.com CASE STUDY Remco Deacon – Portland, Oregon CS178 (01/2014)
