Knorr-Bremse Railway Vehicle Systems Hungary Ltd is a dominant performer in the railway transport all over the world. Their professional brake systems provide the cutting edge for a safe railway transport.
To serve the continually increasing customer demands the company inaugurated a new plant in Budapest in 2010. The increase of the produc-tion capacity has been accompanied with the growth of the stored items. The quantity of the stored items has been growing largely along with the increased capacity of the production. Based on the former positive experi-ence, Knorr-Bremse has decided to purchase further Shuttle XP machines, so the number of devices reached 15.

At present in Shuttle XP they have almost 20,000 storage locations registered in and managed by SAP. As far as the process is concerned the quality checks the goods then gives a store-in command after a tray is selected automatically. The product arrives in a box on the conveyor. A lasergate uses the label stuck on the box to direct it to the appropriate exit. After reading the barcode on the product the tray arrives at the access point where the operator can perform the required operation. In case of unloading an SAP command pops up on the operator's RF terminal. The operator launches the command and the system picks and delivers the required product(s) automatically in tray(s) to the exit. After that the goods are either delivered or taken to the fi nal assembly. Now the system occupancy is 90-95 %.
We would be delighted to ex-plain the process description indetail in a personal consultation.
Task defi nition
Knorr-Bremse Ltd. sought a solution that enabled them to load, unload, and stock-transfer small-size materials effectively in the smallest space possible. They bought their fi rst system in 2004 and ever since the number of such equipment already put in operation in their plant has reached 15. Their current equipment are furnished with automated conveyor and the devices are linked to the company's SAP system. Now 1 operator can serve up to 3 pieces of equipment simultaneously due to the highly-organized state of the system. Knorr-Bremse Ltd. purchased the equipment in Hungary in a pilot project and the positive experience learned there made them purchase also for the headquarters in Germany.
