A portion of the area that is not being developed lies off Quarry Lake. There is a stretch of public ridge way accessible to anyone along the side of the site. This assignment has had its challenges due to the importance of the area being a national trail including the lake and therefore the assignment combines assessing the genuine visitors for the trail, would be trespassers and worse, people going into the lake. To date the major incident reported in the area happened in August last year, when a lady broke her leg having gained entrance to one of the lakes in the quarry and had to be air lifted from the site. Client Problem

Before engaging the services of Optimum Security on their site, base on our findings, youngsters aged 14-25 years go swimming, diving and filming themselves images to be viewed on the web. A report based on Thames Valley Police findings states, 66% of incidents occurred on inland waters such as that of Chinnor and it’s quite a major issue.

Solution To solve the persistent trespassing on Chinnor lakes, we introduced security officers exchanging positions that reduced time of single patrol from higher number of patrols that reduced gaps between patrols and increased their frequency, as a result giving site higher security presence. Officer stationed at his post

We deployed a Marked 4x4 SUV stationed at the entrance of the ridge way, this was done at no extra cost. We also provided local and emergency mobile backup patrols. Due to our operations expansion, we provided a locally based responsive contract management support programme team. We also conducted regular monthly review meetings with service level agreements to our company performance targets. This meant that we were able to specify and design a security service level, which met the security requirements of the company. It also helped us develop new services as well as improving existing ones for their company.

Due to the size of the project, we ensured that

our team maintained constant radio and phone

communication between security officers, and

management. Our officers had to undergo and

complete an official intensive induction on joining

to the site. Officers deployed included big

imposing officers showing a Door Supervision SIA

Badge and Company ID card in order to handle

groups of people and trained on managing conflict.

The Officers also reported faulty site defence barriers to the manager on site e.g., fencing. We registered with the local Police station and arranged regular Police patrols in conjunction with our backup mobile patrols. We took on the responsibility of securing any unlocked doors, gates, alarms etc. as long as keys, locks or codes were provided to our supervisors.

The officers use our Real Time Readers to ensure safety and purposes of lone working. Warning signs were strategically placed around the site as a deterrent to any potential intruders. Officers recorded and notified management of any potential hazards as occurrence and incident report books are filled, signed and updated whenever there is an incident on site. This is checked and certified regularly by our supervisors and be available to the Management, Police, head office and Health and safety inspectors. We also ensured that

on site search register were regularly checked and reviewed by management for any potential intruders searched by searched by security officers

Client Lovell Partnership is among

the leading provider of

affordable housing,

operating from nine

regional offices in England,

Wales and Scotland. The

company specializes in mixed tenure

developments especially urban regeneration

projects. Lovell has currently started works on a £2.17

million development of new council housing for

the London Borough of Ealing.

Lovell Affordable Housing Project Lovell recently appointed Optimum Security Ltd as their security solution provider for the scheme, at a site in High Lane, Hanwell, which will create 10 flats and five houses for affordable rent through Ealing Council. The development which was replacing and existing garage block, is set to be completed in March 2011 and Optimum is providing security services over this period.

Office on Instruction

Client Problem Our client’s site, High Lane in Hanwell, is located at the corner of the road, near large settlement of blocks of flats and residential buildings around, with a pedestrian foot path separating the site office from the building site and access to general public. The site due to the location and its previous history, it had been a play ground for the youths from the blocks of flats. The youths there have been playing on site and the project which has a wood frame work is exposed to the danger of being set on fire.

Solution

After carrying out a ‘Lone Work Risk Assessment’, we advised the client to have manned security service in site. The risk of personal attack on officer was high, however after much consultation with local police and the client, a decision was made to have one night duty security officer backed by a local company mobile response unit.
