Cultural Appropriateness: Through the design, materials, and

construction methods of the common Cambodian.

Transparency: Communication about the simplicity and

reliability of the design.Integrity:

Design will facilitate relationships between people and their land.

Common BuildingRequirements:

• 2 stories• 6m x 12m (about 20’ x

40’)• 10-12 dorm rooms • Use local style and

materialsFeasibility:

• Large groups purposes• Keep costs low• Long life in wet

conditions• Size to fit in requests

Obstacles:Finding informationCultural Differences

Renewable Energy Source

• Preliminary Design:• 6-10 x 175 W solar panels

• Charge controller• 10-14 maintenance free

batteries• Inverter

Problem Review of Project Design Norms Preliminary Solutions Resources

Requirements: Provide Energy to the

Common Building and house Must turn a variable supply

into a dependant AC source Feasibility:

Solar is feasible Hydro is questionable Wind is no longer an option

Page 10: Case for Cambodia

Bridge Design• Requirements:

• Required to span the distance including the added depth of the wet season

• Needs to be able to support the load of a small vehicle or tractor

Alternatives:• Three types of designs that are

feasible at this point are slab bridges, truss bridges, and culvert with land bridge

• Feasibility:• The biggest obstacle at this

point is not having enough data to properly model each design
