Casa Luna Owned by Primitivo Novicio, uncle of the famous Luna brothers, General Antonio Luna and Juan Luna Philippine “Master of Arts”, this house was originally built in 1850 in Namacpacan, La Union, later renamed Luna, La Union. Symmetrically constructed, it reflects the typical square floor plan of the Ilocano bahay na bato. With three floors, it has a cochera (for carriages and carrozas, and as a storeroom for farm produce) at the ground level, an entresuelo (mezzanine) for the servants, the main second floor with bedrooms, the grand living room, kitchen, a toilet and bath, and an azotea at the back. A standard feature for the illustrado houses then was the volada, a catwalk that encircled the entire perimeter of the house that only the alipin saguiguilid used. Casa Luna is witness to historic events. It was the rendezvous point during the Liberation, the headquarters of the USAFIL-NL during World War ll when the capture of Gen. Yamashita was being planned, and a venue for the Nationalista party convention in the 70s where former President Marcos was a guest. It is now a reminder of our brave and artistic heritage.
