Thank you for joining. Next I would like to thank all our volunteers and participants who con- tributed to the successful bowling event held on April 27th. I would also like to thank Pedro Rozario and Virginia Sanchez and their helpers for organizing the 1st Thursday socials during April and May, as well as their contribution which brought full house attend- ance both times. The Casa's focus this year will be (1) to make sure that the culture of the Portuguese from Macau in some shape or form is in all our events, (2) to produce plays and songs in Patuá for one or two events at least and (3) to help the young generation to take ownership of their role in the Casa. We want to maintain our ‘Gastronomia’ program. In the past, we rented space in a professional cooking school with appropriate kitchens. Our member, Cintia Serro, led a couple of these very successful events. This year we are planning along the same lines to hold a ‘workshop de cozinha Macaense’, possibly in the fall. More information to follow in our next newsletter. At our June and December events, we will have the Maquista band ‘Os Ecos de Macau’ playing traditional and popular ‘patuá’ songs, i.e., ‘Mama iou quero’; ‘Macau sã assi’; ‘Longi Di Terra Amado’ and 'Macau - terra minha’. We are also participating in the Bastiana contest. Youths Game and Movie night is a new activity we are introducing to attract our teenage and young a d u l t m e m b e r s . PatuáMacau Patuá has a history that goes back to the arrival of the Portuguese in Macau in the 16th century and the language was handed down from one generation to the next through speech and songs.    Today, fewer than 50 people in the world speak the language, with the youngest speakers grandparents and older who speak the language partially and infrequently.  There is little hope for the language to be spoken by many, but much can

be recorded  and kept from disappearing without a trace. The Casa is working towards storing as many recordings as possible on our webpage in future.

Here are a few recordings by Casa members that are accessible through our website. Under the Patuá tab, ‘select a video’ for your listening pleasure:
