Carter Statement on Closing Guantanamo Bay Congressman Buddy Carter [[email protected]] Sent:Tuesday, February 23, 2016 11:55 AM To: WTVC Producers For Immediate Release Contact: Mary Carpenter 2/23/2016 2028340386 CARTER STATEMENT ON CLOSING GUANTANAMO BAY WASHINGTON, D.C. Congressman Earl L. “Buddy” Carter (Ga01) released the following statement today regarding the Obama administration’s plan to close the detention facility at Guantanamo Bay: “The Obama administration’s announcement today proves the White House is willing to jeopardize the national security of the United States for a campaign promise. The detainees he hopes to bring to American soil are the worst of the worst. Not only is this unacceptable, President Obama’s own Attorney General and military leaders have said it is illegal to bring detainees from the facility at Guantanamo to the United States. Instead of continuing to underestimate the threat of radical Islamic terrorists and focusing on relocating or releasing these jihadist enemies, the President should be focused on destroying the threat to our homeland. He is living in an alternate universe if he believes released detainees will not return to the battlefield as many before them already have. This plan, which fails to include critical details like the exact location of where the detainees will be transferred, will do nothing more than increase this very real threat against the safety of our nation and it will not stand.” ### WEBSITE | UNSUBSCRIBE | CONTACT Click Here to view this email in your browser Click Here to be removed from this list
