We were aston-ished to see the unusual petal flaring emerge along the outer edges, which will intensify as each bloom ages. Plants are lush and semi-bifoliate with dark green foliage. 10105 Prosthechea cochleata ‘Seibel’s’ x self.This unusual species carries the nicknames of ‘Cockleshell Orchid’ due to the shape of the lip, and ‘Octopus Orchid’ for its tentacled appear-ance. Regardless of the name, you will find this an easy growing and exotic choice. Bloom stems are sequential, usually appearing in the spring and continuing to produce new buds over several months time. This species is a member of the Oncidium alliance and has thicker foliage, dubbing it one of the ‘mule ear’ varieties and stays very compact.
