The University was recognized for the great job at implementing the new SWaM search tool for campus, hosting the annual SWaM Vendor Fair, and doing presentations regarding SWaM activities across campus.

Shortly after the start of the new calendar year, we are typically given clearance from VT Office of Budget and Financial Planning to start the acquisition phase of equipment ap-proved through the SCHEV Equip-ment Trust Fund program. Once the approved list of ETF equipment is released to both procurement and departments, purchases should start being placed in HokieMart. Please ensure that your areas utilize their allocations and that the items meet the ETF guidelines. Get ETF orders placed quickly and early to ensure receipt of your items prior to the de-livery and receiving deadlines of mid June, 2020. All standard procure-ment protocols and procedures need to be followed to acquire equipment with ETF funding. Be familiar with the following specific ETF procure-ment guidelines:

• While the University would prefer for equipment purchases to be over $2,000, a single item must cost at least $500 or more in order for the University to be reimbursed from the Equipment Trust Fund Program. Similarly, a single functional system must also cost at least $500. If the actual cost drops below $500 for an item or functional system, the department will be responsible for the cost.

• Servpro of South Roanoke Mont-gomery & Pulaski Counties: VTS-1221-2020

provided, there was an additional need for non-routine, on demand cleaning services that may be re-quired either on a “one-time” basis or could be scheduled on a continu-ous basis dependent on the needs of the individual university department responsible for the specific facilities or occupied space.

Have you seen .... Virginia Tech’s new quadrupedal ro-bot doing pushups on the sideline of Lane Stadium after the Hokies score?

This robot went viral after its ap-pearance on ESPN in late September. Procurement played a role in pur-chasing this robot from a firm called Ghost Robotics Corporation out of Philadelphia, PA which specializes in the creation and revolution of legged robotics. When it’s not perform-ing push-ups on the sideline, this 4-legged robot can be found in Dr. Kaveh Hamed’s laboratory located in Goodwin Hall. Dr. Hamed and his team study how living animals, usually dogs, make their movements. They then translate those move-ments into tens of thousands of lines of computer code, which controls motors that mimic hips, elbows, wrists, and more. This allows the robot to perform a wide array of dif-ferent movements, as well as perform push-ups on the sideline after its favorite team scores.

• SCHEV reference numbers are assigned to specific equipment items; they are not interchange-able. They are also assigned by departments, and may not be used by another department un-less transferred by the Office of Budget and Financial Planning.

• Please note that departments will be responsible for the cost of items purchased which do not comply with ETF guidelines.
