Carpenter Review: April 20, 2017 (Job #17-31) Carpenter, $4,807—$6,142/month. Appointments are typically made at the beginning of the salary range. This is a temporary, seasonal, full-time, pool position in the department of Facilities Management. This position is not eligible for state benefits, but may be eligible for medical benefits only under the Affordable Care Act (ACA). The individual appointed to this position will work for no more than 960 hours per calendar year. Anticipated starting date is June 1, 2016. Position Summary: Under general supervision of the Facilities Maintenance Manager, carpenters perform the full range of journey-level rough and finished skilled carpentry work as required to maintain and/or modify campus physical facilities to meet the needs of the University. Duties: Work from blueprints, specifications, drawings and instructions to build, remodel, maintain and repair various types of facilities, buildings, offices, classrooms, restrooms, sheds, scaffolds, forms, frames, fences and other structures. Install, build and repair internal and external structures. Install and repair drywall, ceiling and floor tiles, and roofs. Fabricate and install cabinets, counters, shelves, benches, partitions, floors, and doors and window frames. Hang doors and install windows. Assist in making concrete molds and structures. Install and repair modular furniture. Inspect completed work for conformance with specifications, requirements and compliance with applicable building and safety codes and regulations. Participates in the maintenance and operations of a carpentry shop. Cleans, maintains and services tools and equipment used in the performance of duties. Tracks and reports time and materials for assigned work. Maintain records and retrieve data related to work performed using manual and/or computerized record-keeping systems. Estimates cost, time and materials for carpentry projects or work efforts as assigned. Minimum Qualifications: Any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through completion of a carpenter's apprenticeship program. Possession of a valid California driver's license and an appropriate driving record. Knowledge, Skills and Abilities: Carpentry skills and ability as would normally be acquired through any combination of progressively responsible training and experience which demonstrates achievement of journey-level skills equivalent to that acquired through the completion of a carpenter's apprenticeship program. Thorough knowledge of methods, materials, tools and equipment used in both rough and finished carpentry. Thorough knowledge of applicable state safety codes, building codes, and regulations pertaining to the carpentry trade, including the Safety Orders of the Division of Industrial Safety for the State of California and State Building Codes. Ability to build, install and repair structural woodwork, flooring, ceilings and cabinetry. Ability to read, interpret and work from blueprints, plans, drawings and specifications. Ability to estimate the cost, time and materials of maintenance, repair and renovation assignments or projects. Ability to read and write at a level as well as perform arithmetic calculations at a level appropriate for the duties of the position. Ability to operate and maintain hand and power carpentry tools and woodworking machinery necessary to perform skilled work. Ability to use maintenance management and work reporting systems such as those used to track work orders, obtain ware- house supplies, maintain facility/equipment data. Ability to observe safety requirements and safe work practices and methods as required. Ability to initiate, establish, and foster communication and teamwork by maintaining a positive, cooperative, productive work atmosphere while establishing effective working relationships within a diverse population and those from various cultural backgrounds. Ability to recognize and accommodate changing priorities; meet short and long term deadlines/goals; and complete routine tasks despite intermittent interruptions. Preferred Qualifications: Three years of journey-level carpentry experience associated with commercial or institutional

construction projects. Possession of a valid Asbestos Maintenance Worker certification valid in the State of California.
