A MESSAGE FROM PRINCIPAL JOSEPH MARTINEZ
Webster’s Dictionary defines community as a feeling of fellowship with others, as a result of sharing common attitudes, interests, and goals. That definition describes Carpenter Community Charter perfectly. Our school community values a balanced education that focuses on academics, the arts, fitness and 21st Century skills. We are a new affiliated charter school that is committed to providing our students with an enriched program that includes hands-on learning in a rigorous and encouraging academic environment where students can thrive and grow.
Parents for Carpenter (PFC) and the generous support of our Partners in Education (PIE) and other sponsors help provide the funding necessary to ensure the longevity of our programs. We are a community-funded school and I encourage you to give your support to our community sponsors and express to them how appreciative we are of their contributions. They have demonstrated that they share our common educational beliefs. Furthermore, they endorse our goal to provide an enriched elementary school experience to the children of Studio City.

The 2010 Carpenter Community Directory is here! We publish this directory as a way to provide convenient and important school information to parents and as a way to let our families know about the businesses that support our school. The contributions and sponsorship of these businesses and organizations provide our children with amazing enrichment and help make our school a beacon of excellence in our community. Whenever possible, please support our Partners in Education by saying “Thank You” and patronizing their businesses. United We Educate!Thank you!
About Parents For Carpenter
PFC is the fundraising arm of Carpenter Community Charter. We are a community-funded school, and continue to depend on the money we raise to fund programs that would not be available without our fundraising, regardless of our charter status. Our charter states that these programs are essential to our curriculum and our fundraising is what makes them possible. Through its ongoing fundraising programs, Parents for Carpenter provides all Carpenter students with music, physical education, dance, science lab and media lab classes. PFC also funds classroom downsizing, aides for our teachers and administration, educational materials, technology upgrades and beautification/site improvements. The Annual Giving Campaign and the Annual Auction and Dinner Dance raise the majority of our budget, and we rely on parent volunteers for all of our fundraising and committee efforts. As we transition to our new future as a Charter School, the Carpenter PTA is focused on providing for the well-being of our kids and families, developing a stronger sense of community, and organizing activities that make our Carpenter experience richer and more meaningful. We provide exciting and engaging school assemblies, beloved extra-curricular events like the Halloween Carnival and Spelling Bee, and hands-on community service opportunities.
Funding comes from membership dues, the Book Fair and other student programs. Our strength and energy comes from YOU. Please contact us [email protected] to get involved.

MISSION
At Carpenter Community Charter, our mission is to provide for the children of Studio
City a vibrant, safe and rewarding neighborhood school where enrichment and hands-on learning are ingrained in a rigorous academic program – and where the
whole child is encouraged to thrive and grow. Our goal is to impart in our students
the skills they need to thrive in the 21st century and to provide our entire community the opportunity to have an active role in the success of our school.

VISION
At Carpenter Community Charter, our vision is to provide an academically challenging program that not only meets academic standards and helps every child
realize their full potential, but fosters critical thinking, independence and creativity –
and gives our students the 21st century skills they need to succeed in an ever-changing world. Carpenter Community Charter will build a model of excellence in
public education through a learning program that:
. Infuses music, dance, arts, and technology into traditional, standards-based
curriculum to provide a rich experience for all of our students
. Includes hands-on, investigative learning with indoor and outdoor science labs, media labs, and special offsite field work, like the annual Washington DC study
trip for fifth grades (in its 18th consecutive year) because we believe learning
extends beyond the classroom
. Places an emphasis on multi-disciplinary, project-based learning that encourages
our children to make connections between the curriculum and the real world –
and creates life-long learners
. Provides a solid foundation in communication skills that people use everyday –
such as solving problems creatively, critically thinking, working cooperatively in teams and independently and utilizing technology effectively
. Emphasizes social and community values that foster self-esteem and respect for
each other
. Meaningfully involves all stakeholders – parents, students, faculty,
