A tall order for any teacher but one that was met with enthusiasm, great team work and organisation by the 26 year 10 students. Preparation for the leaders began back in September when they started their Junior Sports Leaders award, a nationally recognised leadership award for young people. Students have worked hard to gain an understanding of how to plan a sport or activity session, communication, health and safety, fair play and delivery of practical sessions. Once these skills were in place the group had lots of ideas of how they wanted their event to run. The 120 pupils were in small teams and named after wild animals, these groups then took part in 10 different events to gain points for their team and earn “effort”, “performance” and “team work” awards. The event started excellently with each team having an enthusiastic Manager introducing themselves and handing out name badges and explaining the event. The sports leaders running each individual challenge or game had planned with other members of the team to produce something that was accessible to all regardless of ability, was challenging and most of all fun. All of the leaders achieved this with outstanding results. The Primary pupils enjoyed themselves and were engaged throughout the 2 hour event. The games the pupils took part in were not your traditional Olympic events and included speed stacking, hockey shooting, obstacle courses and more. The games finished with some very loud, fast and exciting relays where the leaders joined in with their teams. At the end of the event managers and coaches awarded their teams with participation, effort, team work and performance awards. The event was massively successful for all involved. The Primary pupils had a chance to try something new, the leaders had the opportunity to use their new skills and apply all of their learning. They have now all completed the practical section of the leadership course and will gain a mark for their efforts for GCSE PE. Congratulations to all of the leaders involved, your efforts really paid off! CCS Sports Leaders run a mini Olympics for over 120 pupils January 12th 2010

With the Olympics coming to London in 918 days and the Paralympics in 951 days year 10 sports leaders were set the challenge of organising and running a sports festival for over a 120 Primary school pupils. A tall order for any teacher but one that was met with enthusiasm, great team work and organisation by the 26 year 10 students. Year 10 tutor group help a village in Gambia 10HL have been busy collecting stationery for a parent to donate to a village in Gambia whilst on a trip there next month. The students have gathered coloured pencils, note pads, pens, rubbers and rulers to give to S Bird's mum who will be visiting local schools. The kindness the students have shown will no doubt make a huge impact on the school life of the Gambian children so WELL DONE 10HL!

"C if u can" Students attend GCSE Maths Revision Conference On Wednesday 3rd February, 13 Year 11 students attended a one-day GCSE Maths Revision Conference in Birmingham. The conference was run by senior teachers and a Principal Examiner for the GCSE Maths paper and included worked exam questions and exam technique hints and tips. The students worked very hard over the course of the day and revised 12 key GCSE Maths topics. Their behaviour was excellent throughout the day and a number of them were particularly enthusiastic during the "Who Wants to be a Millionaire"-style quiz. Well done to all who took part on the day - we hope they found it useful and another step closer to achieving that all-important GCSE Grade C.

e-Safety Advice for Students

As part of the Public Information Systems unit of study in the Year 8 ICT curriculum, students are guided through the risks

associated with socialising on the Internet. Caroline Moore, the e-safety representative from Northamptonshire County

Council visited the school to give advice and tips on how young people can minimise risks and protect themselves from

potential harm.

A Houghton from 8EPE has kindly summarised the key points as follows:

e-Safety Advice – Keep Safe Online Never go and meet someone unless you have an adult or someone older with you, not a

friend your age.

Never post images of yourself on the internet, that you don’t want the whole world to see.

Always check your privacy settings on Instant messenger, Facebook and Internet Chat rooms.

If you are being bullied or abused, always tell an adult straight away, or hit the Report Abuse button (look for this logo).

Always make sure when you are online chatting to someone who you’ve never met that you are in a room with other

people around you.

Never show any of your main personal details on your profile, e.g. Address, School, Phone Number. Use nicknames

instead of real names.

If you receive an embarrassing picture of someone DELETE it immediately or you may be arrested. Tell an adult.

If you have a webcam, don’t use it when you’re talking to someone you don’t know as people can find out a lot about

where you are, just by looking behind you.

Don’t make yourself vulnerable to Cyber Bullies! Lastly, BE CAREFUL!

Yr 8 Girls Football Semi Final 9th Dec 2009 CCS 4 Moulton 0 Team Captain- E Boddington The girls had a rocky start in the first half trying to settle to their opponents’ tactics. Several opportunities were had at goal but were just not hitting the back of the net. After settling down 20mins within the first half a great goal was scorn by J Gilding that enthused the girls to work harder. In the second half the girls were playing one twos and really working as a team. Defence were extremely tight and were catching the opposition offside resulting in them not getting an attempt at goal. With some fantastic communication and individual skills the girls managed to score another 3 outstanding goals - one from T Gregory and two from M McGuire. I was extremely impressed with the girls teamwork and effort and I am very proud to say they are through to the FINAL of the Girls County Cup! Player of the Match - B Pinto Report by Miss Greenmore

Yr8 Girls Football District Cup vs Danetre

CCS 9 Danetre 0 Player of the Match G.Pinto The girls started the game with an advantage as within the first ten minutes Danetre's defence had scored an own goal. The girls then took this opportunity to attack the opposition with pure determination. Up front players J Gilding, E Boddington and T Gregory played exceptionally well together and were breaking their defence and scoring some outstanding goals. J Gilding scored several cracking one on one goals putting many nicely past their keeper in the corners of the goal. T Gregory scored an excellent goal from outside the 16 yard box striking from the left hand wing into the top left hand corner of the goal just out of reach of their keeper. E Boddington also scored a memorable goal after receiving a high cross from J Gilding and striking the ball on the volley into the goal so powerfully the keeper was unable to save it. However, the strikers were not the only ones who kept the game in our favour, our defence played exceptionally well. With C Donegal in charge of the back four, Danetre only had one attempt on goal the whole game. Defence played Danetre offside and held their ground exceptionally well, feeding the midfield and up front players with the long passes they needed to attack. A brilliant team effort and team spirit! I was very proud of their performance. Well done CCS!

Yr 7 Netball vs Kingsbrook 26th January 2010 CCS 6 Kingsbrook 5 It was a freezing afternoon when we played Kingsbrook School. We had a strong team but so did Kingsbrook. Play was from one end to another but excellent defending from R Austin-Timms and great interception from B Jackson kept our spirits up. Goals from G Collinson and R Bogush put us ahead after the first stage with the score 2 – 1 to CCS. Into the next session saw B Harmes help to keep the score even at 4 all. A quick team talk from Mrs Wittich and Mrs Chamberlain and we were ready to continue in a hard match in the final session. E Pollock, Captain, played well getting the ball to the goal shooters. Kingsbrook came back scoring again but CCS fighting back with help from E Galt and R Austin-Timms made it hard for Kingsbrook to get the ball. The final score was 6 – 5 to CCS. Player of the match was R Austin-Timms for her defensive play and G Collinson for playing GA so well. Thank you for the support and encouragement from the teachers and adults that stayed.
