NhVSMAN Can you t e l l us something of your l i f e in the United
States and of how your ideas began to change?
RIVERO : On January l , 1959 I decided to f igh t the R e v o l u t i ~ nI par t ic ipa ted n a number of aggressions against the Revolution
from i nside the United States and in other countr ies , during
1959 1960 and 1961 r igh t up to the Pla7a Giron invasion, in
which I also par t ic ipa ted . I was one of the founders of a
small counterrevolutionary group, the f i r s t to be organized in
U.S. t e r r i t o ry to f igh t the Cuban Revolution. t was ca l le d
The \ lhi te Rose. I also took par t in othe r events a t the t ime,
but I don t th ink it necessary to enumerate th em here . In the
Bay of Pigs invasion I fought on the beaches ca l led Playa Largaand Playa Giron. I was captured and held prisoner , with the
re s t o the invaders, for a l i t t l e more than 20 months unt i l
Deceaber 1962 when as you wil l reca l l , the prisoners were
exchanged and r ~ t u r n e d to the United Sta tes . Speaking of

was what my pol i t i c s we r e from 1959 to 1962. However, around
the time I was exchanged, I began to understand tha t l ibe ra l

which to combat communi sm because I had seen so much dis loya l ty
cynicism and pervers ion under cap i ta l i sm. Therefore , a t the
beginning of 1963 I turned to na t iona l is t ideas . However, I
soon rea l ized t ha t th i s ne w po l i t ica l posi t ion, which was a

a contradic t ion, a f a l s e h o o d t became mere and more evident
tha t eounterrevolutionary nat ional i sm would lead me s t r a igh t

in the counterrevolut ion. ~ h r e o r e to avoid going through

Of c ourse, these k i l l ings are only a t iny par t of the in te rna l
