CareWays Community – Annual Report – 2019 7

Presidents Report Within this Annual Report is the audited financial statement of CareWays community Inc. I am pleased to note that, despite the constraints of funding provisions, the organisation continues to operate within a sound fiscal framework. Anyone who visits the CareWays newly refreshed website is immediately made aware of the values and mission of the organisation. When reading the information on the site it becomes apparent that CareWays is a dynamic organisation which works with and for the community. It is this core of positive values that underpins the professional and caring manner in which all of our services are delivered to the community by our volunteers and staff. In this era of internet connectivity CareWays has also tapped into social media platforms such as Facebook in order to disseminate current information about events, services and on-going programmes. A set of strict guidelines has been developed for staff to follow when using these platforms so that the information released adheres to the high standards of responsible communications required by the organisation. These marketing tools have been successful in reaching a wider demographic than previously possible, particularly when promoting the many one-off events and functions organised by CareWays. As well as the much-appreciated Community Care services that CareWays delivers, the organisation also provides a broad spectrum of activities and events for the community. Many people from diverse backgrounds and age groups benefit from these. Reading and hearing the positive response from the recipients and their good news stories enables us, and our stakeholders, to see the value these activities have in developing a cohesive society where disadvantaged, disconnected and disenfranchised people can benefit from our services. The range of community events successfully hosted by CareWays during the last year has included NAIDOC celebrations at Koonawarra Community Centre, an Open Day at Horsley Community Centre, Children’s Week Activities plus the Annual Art and Craft Show and Trivia Night at the Dapto Ribbonwood Centre. The reality for not-for-profit organisations is that financial resources are becoming more difficult to access as governments change their priorities and restructure the way in which services are expected to be delivered. Neighbourhood Centres are currently being faced with the challenge of continuing to provide opportunities for community members to participate in social activities which encourage a supportive, caring and cohesive community that values all of its members equally, whilst fulfilling their government funding obligations to work within the Targeted Early Intervention framework. It is pleasing to note that the Senior Management Team of CareWays and the relevant staff, with the support of the Board, are working effectively towards achieving these goals. It is the aim of the organisation to be innovative in its approach to enable those areas of social inclusion which have traditionally been the domain of Neighbourhood Centres to continue to be valued and enhanced while developing the newly identified priority spheres of work. Currently, CareWays community Inc. works within five different locations. These include the Dapto, Horsley, Koonawarra, Thirroul and Sydney Inner West. The services provided to people in these areas are many and varied. The details of these functions of the organisation are contained within this Annual Report. I recommend that all stakeholders and interested parties peruse carefully, and take note of the information contained within the pages of this comprehensive document. In conclusion, I wish to thank the members of the Board of Directors for their commitment to developing and maintaining a strong and viable organisation. They are the strategic planners and overseers of the functions of CareWays. They are ably supported by the members of the Senior Management Team who demonstrate a positive and professional example to the dedicated staff and volunteers who make the vision of CareWays community Inc. an active reality. Collaborative Working Relationships We work with lots of different organisations that help us achieve our objectives some of them are in the following pages. We thank them for their support and dedication to the many vulnerable target groups we are working to include in our connected, caring and supportive communities. We would particularly like to thank the participation of all the Aboriginal Services that have joined our Aboriginal Advisory Group. This year’s NAIDOC celebration was a wonderful example of what can be achieved working together. Special Thanks to our Donors and Supporters Our community team and events volunteers work hard to provide community events that are inclusive and provide social engagement within our communities the success of these events depends on the valuable contribution from donors, thank you.

A client’s son thanked CareWays for our prompt action as the client really appreciated having this

organised so quickly due to the fact he was going overseas at the end of

the week.

COMMUNITY CARE

Client's daughter called to express her thanks to CareWays. The client had her first service yesterday and the client could not be happier, both with the Care Worker and the

work she did within the home. Client's daughter wanted to personally thank CareWays Officer Rose for her work in

getting this service started. Client's daughter stated that she wasn't sure that she would

be able to convince her mother to have this service, but with the help of CareWays this was made possible. The first service was a

success and the client is very happy.
