Ione Hausler, Agri Science Instructor

The Stevens Point FFA attended the FFA 212 Lead-

ership Conference and EDGE Conference in Green

Bay, Wisconsin on March 18-19, 2016. P.J. Jacobs’

students Savannah Bartelt and Jacqueline Wisinski

attended the EDGE conference. EDGE stands for

Experiencing, Discover, Growth and Excellence. It

is a personal development conference designed to

help young students learn how they can develop

and maintain a positive outlook on life, deal with

negative peer pressure, and motivate themselves

and others. EDGE is designed to meet the needs of

younger members, providing students with the

knowledge and skills needed to set and achieve

goals in all areas of their lives. This year’s theme,

“The Teamwork Experience,” helped students dis-

cover who they really are!

The 212 Leadership Conference was attended by

Stephanie Hirzy, Justin Wisinski and Trevor Wis-

inski of the Stevens Point FFA Chapter. This is a

two day personal development conference de-

signed for high school freshmen and sophomores

involved in the FFA organization. 212 degrees is

the boiling point of water - the conference focus is

to take the students to the boiling point of leader-

ship. At 211 degrees water is extremely hot, but just

one more degree gets us to the next level. These

conferences focus on student develop-

ment. Students were challenged to push the limits.

Themes included “ Virtues and Growth.”

Leadership development is key focus in the Nation-

al FFA Organization. Helping FFA members devel-

op their leadership skills and focus on who

they are and what they can become is key to

the mission of the FFA Organiza-

tion. Members start at their local chapters in

their home high schools and can become active

at both the state and national levels. Students

in rural, suburban and urban schools all can

benefit from the programs offered through ag-

ricultural education. The FFA is a key compo-

nent of agricultural education and helps the

students to develop leadership skills through

hands on and real life experiences.

Premier leadership, personal growth and ca-

reer success through agricultural education is

the mission of the FFA Organization and the

212 Leadership conference and the EDGE con-

ference are a couple of the man y opportunities

that FFA offers its members to develop life-

time leadership skills.

Ben Franklin Agriculture Education Students and Kennedy

Elementary students gain valuable lessons about agricul-

ture.

Agriculture Education students and FFA members, under

the direction of Ione Hausler, trade in their backpacks for

a brief case and their notebooks for lesson plans. As

“temporary teach-

ers,” the members

research, write, and present classroom curriculum for

kindergarten through 5th grade students, educating them

about agriculture.

The students prepared lessons on current and important

agricultural topics including Small Animals, Wildlife,

Fish, and Dairy Products to students at Kennedy Elemen-

tary in Junction City.
