DECA,AnAssociationofMarketingStudents 

As an integral part of the classroom curriculum, DECA’s industry-validated competitive events are aligned with the National Curriculum Standards in the career clusters of marketing, business management and administration, finance, and hospitality and tourism. DECA's flagship evaluation process involves students in both a written component such as an exam or report and an interactive component with an industry professional serving as a judge. DECA’s competitive events directly contribute to every student being college and career ready when they graduate from high school. MSCPS had 161 students to qualify and represent Florida District 13 (made up of Miami-Dade County) at the State Conference. The 2013 Florida DECA State Career Development Conference took place in Lake Buena Vista, FL, February 28 – March 3, 2013. M-DCPS students received honors in the following categories:

The mission of CECF / BPA is to contribute to the preparation of a world-class workforce through the advancement of leadership, citizenship, academic, and technological skills. As an integral part of the classroom curriculum, the competitive events are aligned with the National Curriculum Standards. The number of student who participated in the On Job Training (OJT) Program was 1,831 utilizing 1,649 training agencies for an of overall total of 1,382,662.42 hours worked contributing $11,265,311.67 Gross earnings to the Miami Dade Community. The 2013 CECF/BPA State Leadership Conference took place in Orlando, FL, on March 17-20, 2013. M-DCPS students received honors in the following categories:

Family,CareerandCommunityLeadersofAmerica(FCCLA) 

FCCLA’s programs provide members the opportunity to expand their leadership potential and develop skills for life necessary in families, communities, and workplaces. Members can demonstrate family and consumer sciences skills, career skills, and interpersonal skills through the STAR (Students Taking Action with Recognition) Events.

STAR Events recognize members for proficiency and achievement in chapter and individual projects, leadership skills, and career preparation. STAR Events offer individual skill development and application of learning through the following activities:

• Cooperative — teams work to accomplish specific goals • Individualized — members work alone to accomplish specific goals • Competitive — individual or team performance measured by an established set of criteria

HealthOccupationsStudentsofAmerica(HOSA) 

HOSA is a national organization associated with the Health Science Education Curriculum. The organization has three levels of recognition; they are Regional, State, and National. Students participate at the Regional level to advance to the State level, and winners at the State level advance to the National Competitive Events. Competitive events and categories range from knowledge of specific subject areas to skills necessary to complete job functions, leadership and team projects. The competitive events participants are eligible from middle grades, high school and post-secondary education levels. The 2013 HOSA State Conference took place in Orlando, FL, April 4 -7, 2013. TechnologyStudentAssociation (TSA)StateandNationalWinnersThe Technology Student Association (TSA) is devoted to the needs of students enrolled in or completed CTE Engineering and Technology Education programs. Middle and high school students, guided by their advisors, competed in competitions, such as Biotechnology, 3-D Drafting (CAD), Digital Video, VEX Robotics and Tests Engineering Aptitude, Mathematics and Science (TEAMS) Cyber security. TSA also administers the competition of the Verizon “Innovative Mobile Phone/Tablet App Challenge” at the national conference. Of the more than 5,500 attendees, students from the United States, Germany and Turkey competed in more than 60 competitive events based on principles and concepts in STEM curriculum.

At the national conference, workshops were presented by educators and industry representatives from more than 20 organizations including the Florida Solar Energy Center, the Nuclear Energy Institute, eCybermission (National Science Teachers Association,) Project Lead The Way, Mastercam CNC Software and Colorado State University.

The TSA State Conference and Competitions was held in Orlando, Florida, March 13-16, 2013. TSA hosted its largest-ever annual conference in Orlando, Florida, June 28 – July 2, 2013.
