• Alumni are only interested in getting involved with departments/activities they were connected to asa student ♦♦

• Identifying timing that is opportune for both students and alumni ♦♦• Remote location ♦♦♦♦♦• Student apathy; perception that Career Services primarily serves certain majors ♦♦♦♦• Competition for students time and attention ♦♦• Ineffective communication outreach ♦♦ 16

Page 18: CAREER SERVICES ASSESSMENT SUMMARY & PLAN REPORTcontent-calpoly-edu.s3.amazonaws.com/careerservices/1/images/new_ourstory/Career...CAREER SERVICES ASSESSMENT SUMMARY & PLAN REPORT

• Cost ♦♦♦♦♦• Time ♦♦♦♦♦• Human resources ♦♦• Lack of support/buy-in from at the university/administration level ♦• Alumni misconceptions about what Career Services offers ♦♦♦• Momentum to get new initiatives started ♦• Ensuring that opportunities are mutually beneficial for alumni and students involved ♦• Some alumni didn’t have a positive experience as students and don’t want to connect ♦♦♦• Initiatives need to be enduring priorities; payoff may take 3-5 years or more ♦• Campus culture doesn’t promote engagement beyond graduation ♦♦• Figuring out how to reach alumni ♦♦• Faculty may be resistant to being asked to add to their curriculum ♦• Career Services’ current CSM platform doesn’t offer way to flag alumni ♦• Ensuring that alumni we engage represent diversity ♦• Not all alumni use LinkedIn or social media ♦• Sometimes an alum has a personal connection with a specific staff/faculty member; when that

staff/faculty leaves campus it severs the alumni connection to the department ♦
