Region 10 - Montco Works NOW Industry Insight Series Region 10 (Berks, Bucks, Chester, Delaware, Montgomery, Philadelphia

counties)

MontcoWorks NOW is the youth and young adult workforce provider for Montgomery County, Pennsylvania. As a service of the Montgomery County Intermediate Unit, MWN provides career readiness services to individuals 14-24 under the Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act.

In February, their Teacher in the Workplace program provided 75 teachers with an intensive �ve-day

learning opportunity in one of four cohorts; Health and Human Services, Construction, Manufacturing, Hospitality and Tourism.

Coalition "Champion" Spotlight - JA Inspire This spring, over 50,000 south central PA middle and high school grades

students will be exploring careers and learning about local businesses

without ever leaving their classroom/home through the JA Inspire

Virtual program. Running from March 15 – June 13, the program

provides students with the opportunity to learn about career clusters, determine which ones best align to their skills and interests, and use that information to guide their visit to the JA Inspire Virtual career exploration

Career Ready PA Coalition Virtual Kick-Off Fall 2020 The Pennsylvania Department of Education's Career Readiness Advisor, Laura Fridirici, and Career Ready PA team held �ve (5) statewide stakeholder sessions from October to December 2020 with over 140 participants. Participants engaged in collaborative conversations to increase awareness of best practices and strategies in career and workforce readiness opportunities. Survey results codi�ed

priorities, including employability skills, best practices/initiatives, industry credentials, pre-apprenticeships/apprenticeships, and career pathway pilots. Career and workforce readiness are

integral to developing equitable access to career pathways for all Pennsylvania learners, through

effective workforce training, aligned to workforce needs and departmental career readiness initiatives. The Career Ready PA Coalition will be moving forward in 2021 with additional career and workforce

readiness opportunities at the statewide and regional levels.

booths hosted by local and regional businesses to learn more about the business, the types of jobs the

business offers, and the education, skills, and training needed to work in that business. Students can

also visit the expo’s virtual auditorium where a variety of webinars feature local and national speakers

sharing information about work readiness skills, �nancial literacy, and entrepreneurship. The JA

Inspire Virtual program, including pre- and post-expo lessons materials, is provided at no cost to

schools thanks to the generosity of Junior Achievement of South Central PA’s business partners. Interested in getting your students involved? Contact Michelle Richard at [email protected]. Upcoming Trainings and Events

Career Ready Boot Camps: Career Ready Classroom to Workforce Connection

The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) is pleased to announce a boot camp (Act 48) designed to assist districts in meeting the statewide postsecondary attainment 2025 goal of 60

percent of Pennsylvanians with a postsecondary credential, certi�cate, or degree. Training will include the following:

Career Readiness and Workforce in PA (Career Education and Work Standards) Industry-Based Learning

Stakeholder and Workforce Partnerships

Classroom and Workforce Alignment Supporting Resources

The goal of this training is the development of an action plan that utilizes stakeholder and workforce

partnerships to expand the classroom to career connections and build school wide momentum for career readiness. Team members will be poised to provide support in the implementation of the action

plan.

Ask the Liaison Webinar – Resource Rescue! The Pennsylvania Department of Education (PDE) is pleased to announce a two-hour virtual training

session (Act 48) designed to assist districts in meeting evidence requirements for the Career Readiness Indicator and the Industry-Based Learning Indicator. Educators will have the opportunity to

take a deep dive into existing free classroom resources, SAS, and the Career Ready PA Coalition

websites to support career readiness and work-based learning. Your regional Career Ready PA liaison

will guide you through the process, as well as provide technical support.

The goal of this training is to further develop a repository of resources to support the Career Readiness and Industry-Based Learning Indicators with the support of the Career Ready PA Regional

Pennsylvania Social Emotional Learning Day - March 26, 2021 Governor Tom Wolf proclaimed March 26, 2021, as Pennsylvania Social Emotional Learning Day. The

Pennsylvania Department of Education provides a toolkit for the PA Career Ready Skills (employability

skills). The Pennsylvania Career Ready Skills (PA CRS) are social emotional learning progressions that support the development of student competence. By design, the PA CRS re�ect priorities to ensure

youth are career ready and prepared to meet the demands of the 21st century workforce. The PA CRS

are grouped into three domains: self-awareness and self-management, Establishing and Maintaining

Relationships, and Social Problem Solving.

U.S. Department of Education Releases Guidance to States on Assessing Student Learning During the Pandemic On February 22, 2021, the U.S. Department of Education (ED) is providing guidance to states

emphasizing the importance of �exibility in administering assessments this year as a result of the

pandemic and supporting the use of assessment data as a source of information for parents and

educators to target resources and support, rather than for accountability purposes this year.
