Chardin was born in 1699 and died in 1779. He seemed to praise the simple goodness of ordinary people, especially mothers and young children. He spent most of his career painting stills of people who lived far from the corrupt society. Chardin was the poet of the commonplace and the master of its nuances. He found moral values in scenes of

domestic life. A gentle sentiment is expressed in his works of art an emotion not contrived and artificial but born of the painters honesty, insight, and sympathy .
