GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN BUSINESS ANALYTICS

Professional MBA students have the option of earning a Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics as a part of the program’s elective offerings. This certificate is designed to complement the program’s curriculum and enhance career

opportunities by providing critical skills in business analytics. The certificate requires 12 credit hours (four courses) earned in the following three business analytics courses and an additional course chosen from four options:

The Professional MBA program at the Darla Moore School of Business offers the quality of a top ranked part-time MBA program with the flexibility working professionals need. Learn and network with other professionals representing some of the region’s largest employers in healthcare, manufacturing, financial services and energy. The program is ranked No. 22 in the U.S. and No. 1 in South Carolina by U.S. News & World Report’s 2019 part-time MBA rankings. The Moore School’s leading research

and clinical faculty members present timely topics pertinent to real-world business issues. Courses are offered in blended learning formats: regional classrooms, on demand course capture in real time and delay, and daylong immersions (residencies) on the UofSC Columbia campus. This flexible delivery style provides students with several ways to engage with the faculty and classmates through class discussions, presentations and team meetings.

PROGRAM ADMISSION AND FEES

Prospective students may apply for admission to the Professional MBA program in the Spring (January) or Fall (August) terms. Admission requirements include a completed undergraduate degree (all majors welcome), and a minimum of two years of work experience (some exceptions made). A competitive GRE or GMAT test score, two essays, an accomplishment based resume and two professional recommendations are also required. Test waivers are available for working professionals with at least seven years of progressive management experience.Applicants interested in being considered for a test waiver should submit a completed test waiver request form and an essay

PROFILE OF PROFESSIONAL MBA CLASS ENTERING 2018

The Professional MBA curriculum consists of nine core courses and seven electives for a total of 48 credit hours (3 credits per course). Core courses strengthen the student’s business functional foundation with material that is relevant across a variety of industries. They incorporate real-life situations with research and theory. Using this knowledge, students apply what they learn immediately at their workplace and enhance future career opportunities.Students may design their individual plan of study through selecting electives based on interest and career goals or by choosing an area of specialization.

Electives allow students to gain greater depth in a specific area and are offered in multiple formats to provide additional learning and networking opportunities. Areas of specialization include finance, international business, innovation/entrepreneurship and marketing. To earn a specialization, students must take four specific electives in that area. Detailed information about the specializations and a list of currently offered electives may be found on the Professional MBA website under the Curriculum tab.An optional Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics is also available.

Optional short-term study abroad programs are offered two to three times a year as electives. These 10- to 14-day trips provide insight into the interdependence of business and culture in the country visited. Participants meet with business executives, government officials and industry experts to gain a better understanding of how the country/region functions within the global economy and attend several cultural events as well. Previous destinations include South America, China, Eastern and Western Europe and the Netherlands.

The Professional MBA program curriculum provides the flexibility needed for working professionals to earn an MBA without interrupting their careers. Course delivery is designed to foster learning and engagement through the use of video conferencing, discussion forums, captured and real-time instruction and other technologies. Professors teach live from the USC Columbia campus using video conferencing technology to create discussions and interactions between the regional classrooms in South Carolina and Charlotte. On demand course capture in real time and delay gives students the ability to engage with professors and classmates regardless of business travel and other professional commitments. Most PMBA students take

advantage of all these options frequently. The program’s academic calendar consists of six 7-week terms and 14-week immersion courses over a calendar year with breaks between each 7-week term. Most courses offered in a 7-week term meet one night per week from 6 to 9 pm (using video conferencing) with some requiring additional Saturday class time on the USC Columbia campus. Immersion courses provide face-to-face instruction with the professor and typically occur over a 14-week timeframe with at least three Saturday class days on the USC Columbia campus. Eight of the nine core courses meet one night per week in a 7-week period with no Saturday classes. One core class, Competing through People (MGMT 770),

is taught in the immersion format of three Saturday classes at the Moore School of Business. Electives are offered in several formats – immersion, one night in a 7-week term and one night in a 7-week term with required Saturday classes. Prior to registering for any course in the Professional MBA program, students should review the course syllabus to completely understanding the learning outcomes, course deliverables as well as the required class meeting times. Students may earn their MBA degree through the Professional MBA program in 28 months following the recommended course sequence. Accelerated options are available that can reduce the program length to 20 months if the student has additional time to dedicate to class.

PROFILE OF PROFESSIONAL MBA CLASS ENTERING 2018

The Professional MBA curriculum consists of nine core courses and seven electives for a total of 48 credit hours (3 credits per course). Core courses strengthen the student’s business functional foundation with material that is relevant across a variety of industries. They incorporate real-life situations with research and theory. Using this knowledge, students apply what they learn immediately at their workplace and enhance future career opportunities.Students may design their individual plan of study through selecting electives based on interest and career goals or by choosing an area of specialization.

Electives allow students to gain greater depth in a specific area and are offered in multiple formats to provide additional learning and networking opportunities. Areas of specialization include finance, international business, innovation/entrepreneurship and marketing. To earn a specialization, students must take four specific electives in that area. Detailed information about the specializations and a list of currently offered electives may be found on the Professional MBA website under the Curriculum tab.An optional Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics is also available.

Optional short-term study abroad programs are offered two to three times a year as electives. These 10- to 14-day trips provide insight into the interdependence of business and culture in the country visited. Participants meet with business executives, government officials and industry experts to gain a better understanding of how the country/region functions within the global economy and attend several cultural events as well. Previous destinations include South America, China, Eastern and Western Europe and the Netherlands.

The Professional MBA program curriculum provides the flexibility needed for working professionals to earn an MBA without interrupting their careers. Course delivery is designed to foster learning and engagement through the use of video conferencing, discussion forums, captured and real-time instruction and other technologies. Professors teach live from the USC Columbia campus using video conferencing technology to create discussions and interactions between the regional classrooms in South Carolina and Charlotte. On demand course capture in real time and delay gives students the ability to engage with professors and classmates regardless of business travel and other professional commitments. Most PMBA students take

advantage of all these options frequently. The program’s academic calendar consists of six 7-week terms and 14-week immersion courses over a calendar year with breaks between each 7-week term. Most courses offered in a 7-week term meet one night per week from 6 to 9 pm (using video conferencing) with some requiring additional Saturday class time on the USC Columbia campus. Immersion courses provide face-to-face instruction with the professor and typically occur over a 14-week timeframe with at least three Saturday class days on the USC Columbia campus. Eight of the nine core courses meet one night per week in a 7-week period with no Saturday classes. One core class, Competing through People (MGMT 770),

is taught in the immersion format of three Saturday classes at the Moore School of Business. Electives are offered in several formats – immersion, one night in a 7-week term and one night in a 7-week term with required Saturday classes. Prior to registering for any course in the Professional MBA program, students should review the course syllabus to completely understanding the learning outcomes, course deliverables as well as the required class meeting times. Students may earn their MBA degree through the Professional MBA program in 28 months following the recommended course sequence. Accelerated options are available that can reduce the program length to 20 months if the student has additional time to dedicate to class.

Professional MBA students pay tuition based on the number of courses taken each term. Tuition for the program is charged on a per-credit hour basis. Each course is three credit hours. The University of South Carolina also charges a technology fee for each credit hour taken. All Professional MBA students pay the same hourly rate regardless of residency.

GRADUATE CERTIFICATE IN BUSINESS ANALYTICS

Professional MBA students have the option of earning a Graduate Certificate in Business Analytics as a part of the program’s elective offerings. This certificate is designed to complement the program’s curriculum and enhance career

opportunities by providing critical skills in business analytics. The certificate requires 12 credit hours (four courses) earned in the following three business analytics courses and an additional course chosen from four options:
