Innovative High Schools

• Joint Advisory Committee has updated the CIHS application for 2013-14– Application is available now at

http://www.ncpublicschools.org/academicservices/cihs/– Applications are due November 1, 2013 to

accommodate legislative requirements for budgeting– Location waiver, if needed, is included with the

application as Appendix D

Dual Credit Reminder

• “Dual credit” means HS credit for college courses

• SBE approved dual credit based on CCP pathways

• Principals are not limited to only those courses

• Dual credit decisions should always be made based upon course content– Does college course approximate or extend

high school content standards?

Page 15: Career & College Promise CTE Summer Conference July 25, 2013

CCP Course Substitutions

• Students are allowed to substitute courses in pathways, for example English literature

• Requires Community College partner to agree and document reason for substitution

• Allows students to take advantage of dual credit opportunities or take courses that make sense based on their plans

Page 16: Career & College Promise CTE Summer Conference July 25, 2013

Course Weighting and CAA

• Honors credit for college courses at the 100 or 200 level and on the CAA

• Counselors and CDCs need to proactively advise students about this – CCP might not be the best option for all students

• DPI and Community College CAOs agree on need to change, but UNC system must agree as well. UNC is considering a change

• CAA is currently being revised; due date is unknown
