College of Arts & Sciences

Every undergraduate student at Carolina takes his or her foundational classes in the College. Within the 20 departments and schools, 24 programs, 26 centers and institutes, 3 initiatives and 47 majors in the College of Arts & Sciences, virtually all of the University’s undergraduate students begin to hone the vital skills of critical thinking and effective communication that are cornerstones of a college education. Darla Moore School of Business

The Darla Moore School of Business is one of the country’s top-ranked business schools and because of this demands academic excellence from its students. In 2017, the Darla Moore School of Business was recognized as the number one for its undergraduate and graduate international business programs by U.S. News & World Report. In addition to its international program components, the Darla Moore School of Business also holds nine undergraduate concentrations, seven master’s level programs and two Ph.D. programs.

College of Education

The College of Education, as a unit, consists of all teacher education programs in the College of Education, the College of Arts and Sciences, and the School of Music. The online graduate program was rated in the Top 25 in the country. The University of South Carolina was the first university in South Carolina to seek accreditation from the National Council on Accreditation of Teacher Education (NCATE), and has maintained this national standard since 1969.

Founded in 1923, our School of Journalism and Mass Communications is one of the oldest in the country, but that certainly doesn’t mean it’s old-fashioned! US News and World Report has ranked our School Library Media graduate program #5 in the country, and our School of Library and Information Sciences serves as our area’s literacy champion through the South Carolina Center for Children’s Books and Literacy and Cocky’s Reading Express.

School of Music

The School of Music is peer-evaluated to be among the most highly regarded music schools and conservatories in the U.S. and is accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music. Arnold School of Public Health

The College of Public Health was established in 1975 and in 1977 the college became the 19th accredited school of public health in the United States and remains the only school of public health in South Carolina. When adjusted for program size, our doctoral program in exercise science is rated #1 in the country and our public health graduate program is in the top 25 in the country.
