Smart Health: University of Applied Sciences of Carinthiameets NOI Techpark
On 9th and 10th December, we had the opportunity to welcome our LeadProject Partner – Applied University of Carinthia – to South Tyrol andpresent to them NOI Techpark and some leading companies in fields ofsmart health, such as Microgate, Reha Stim, LIA and BPCO Media andthe Terraxcube Lab. Microgate presented their innovative Optogait system for movementanalysis and functional assessment of patients with normal or pathologicalconditions and lead our guests through their testing laboratories. RehaStim presented their flagship appliance the FLOAT, a new dynamicmultidirectional overhead body support that supports patients with gaitimpairments in the training and rehabilitation of their natural locomotion.BPCO media, a startup spin-off of Campus Biomedico University of Romeand incubated at NOI Techpark, presented their innovative medical devicethat allows patients suffering from Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease(COPD) to monitor their health state and detect the onset of flare-ups andcritical clinical situations. Finally, LP visited terraXcube, a world unique research lab that simulatethe extreme conditions of mountains in a safe and controlled environment.The lab features an advanced technological conception, in whichhypobaric chamber technology has been paired with top-of-the-line environmental simulation in an infrastructure capable of providing allthe Earth’s extreme environmental conditions in a single test facility.
Smart Manufacturing: Innovation Fora, 9th September2019, NOI Techpark Bolzano
Innovation Fora with focus on Human-Machine interface started by briefintroduction of participants coming from Lombardy and South Tyrol,followed by description of activities and services provided by NOITechpark.Afterwards, a guided tour through NOI Techpark and relevant laboratorieshas been offered. In particular, the participants visited terraXcube, a worldunique research lab that simulate the extreme conditions of mountains ina safe and controlled environment and Frauhofer Italia, where they hadthe possibility to explore latest technologies on collaborative robotics,particularly on industrial and construction fields.Finally, the participants had the chance to experience robotics technologyand interact with Pepper, a semi-humanoid robot that is supporting theNOI Techpark Infodesk in reception activities.A short video summarizing the event is also available:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rutgXcbaO7E
The CARE4TECH Final conference: THE SMART LIVINGFORUM
The CARE4TECH Final Conference, the SMART LIVING FORUM, was abig success attracting over 200 visitors. It took place on 14 November2019 in the Congress Center Villach in Austria.The Conference was dedicated to the design of our future digitallysupported everyday life from the modern home to the advancedworkplace. High-caliber lecturers provided visionary food for thought anddemonstrated from their own practice how ideas can be implementedsuccessfully and what hurdles must be overcome. Examples andinnovation methods from industry and research encouraged people toopen their eyes to new ideas. The focus was on questions such as "Whatfuture do we want to shape together and how can this succeed?" "How doI get from technology to application?" The Smart Living Forum brought updifferent topics regarding technology development, innovation, andinterregional anchoring of Smart Living technologies with a focus onbroader integration of Smart Living technologies in everyday life. At thecenter of this discussion are elements like data science and artificialintelligence and the question about a common European way.
From eHealth to digital health
Roughly 40 digital health and MedTech companies are active in thecountry, says Tina Vavpotič — healthcare business strategist andconsultant, with rich experiences in healthcare policy design, healthcare ITproduct design and implementation. Tina led the Teletransfusion projectand was among the initiators of the Slovenian digital healthassociation Healthday.si, founded in 2014.Healthday.si began as a friendly gathering for anyone interested in orworking with healthcare technology. The idea for the association wascame from a group of entrepreneurs who realized most companies inSlovenia are looking at scaling abroad and could, therefore, exchangebest practices. Around 100 people attended the first meeting, and today,Healthday.si annual conferences attract over 200 people each year.From a community bringing together digital health experts, entrepreneurs,medical professionals, and legislators, Healthday.si became an activeorganization advocating wider and faster inclusion of digital health solutionin the national healthcare system.To go beyond constructive discussions at annual conferences andmeetups, Healthday.si team decided for a new approach in 2019. Anexpert team prepared a series of workshops to discover the bestapproach for a systematic and thoroughly planned inclusion of chosendigital health innovations in the healthcare system. The goal of the specialprogram called DIH is to get 5 digital health solutions in the nationalhealthcare system by 2021.

The NEXT FLOOR TECHNOLOGY FOR TOURISM NETWORK and theSTATE OF SALZBURG in cooperation with Berchtesga dener Land arelooking for MOBILITY SOLUTIONS! They are looking for innovative solutions that identify root causes, analyzespecific interdependencies and offer flexible solutions to specific stages ofthe user or traveler journey. This can include incentive systems, newlogistics formats, improved public transportation or predictive analyticalsystems. Whatever your solution is - even if your approach is unusual -apply! With this batch, they want to get to know you, understand how yoursolution can be applied to the benefit of the region and evaluate whatwould be necessary to do so.
WHAT DO YOU GET?- The selected companies have the possibility to get a 12-month contractwith the State of Salzburg to bring their idea into application.- If the 12-month test period is completed with successful results, thecontract will be extended, and your solution will be presented to otherregions with similar problems.
As part of the program you will receive the following additional benefits:- A Tailored and interactive program with the focus on: young companiesor scaleup/corporate or public co-operations, continuous development ofscale-up readiness levels (technological, organizational, commercial andfinancial), access to different financing sources including publicprocurement processes- Live feedbacks from mentors/advisors and potential investors- Support from our behavioral economist team to leverage the maximumout of your data- The chance to pitch your company to the Next Floor Investors networkand its associated partners- Introduction to potential financial corporate partners- Introduction to potential customers.
COST- No equity requirements for the program- No fees or cost for the program- board and lodging have to be taken care of by the participatingcompanies.
ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA TO APPLY- no more than 5 years have passed since formation of your company or amayor pivot- You are developing an innovative product or service that matches thecriteria (see above)- Your innovative idea is technically and commercially feasible- You have an interest to develop and commercialize your product atEuropean and/or global level- Applicant must be able to communicate (read and speak) in English- Applicants must be able to travel and stay in Salzburg if required for theparticipation in the program
TIMING- 14th of February 2020: Deadline to apply- 1st of March 2020: if you are pre-selected, pitch your project in a videoconference in front of the Next Floor Network committee- between 2nd and 15th of March 2020: announcement of results (5 to 12companies will be selected)- 1st of April 2020: Companies travel to Salzburg for a three-day event topitch their solutions to representatives of our partners andlayout their strategies and ideas. Companies will be matched with mentorsand industry experts to support them. Shortfalls andneeds of their solutions will be discussed- 8th of April 2020: Winners of the first round will be announced.- 22nd of April 2020: Winners are invited to Salzburg to participate in tailormade one-week program, where shortfalls and problemswill be addressed- 13th of Mai 2020: Participants return to Salzburg for 3rd and final threedays block to present their updated solutions. Winner(s) willbe announced at the end of final block.
SELECTION CRITERIACompanies will be evaluated along five main criteria:- Level of Innovation of the presented technology-based solution- Sustainability- Start-up team- Business model- Business Plan
