Assisted Living & Residential Care Homes What is a Care Suite?Care Suites are a cluster of suites, often called a “neighborhood,” in an assisted living (AL) community and are also common in residential care homes (RCH) due to their intimate nature. Care Suites offer advanced care, similar to skilled nursing, to residents requiring a higher level of care services.

Most Care Suites include a hospital-style bed and share the amenities of an AL or RCH including home-like preferences of dining, housekeeping, activities programming and personal assistance.

What is the admission’s process?A person is admitted to a Care Suite from an AL community, from a hospital discharge or from a person’s home usually by physician referral. Upon admission, an RN assessment is completed to confirm that the AL or RCH can meet the resident’s specific care needs no matter how advanced. Some communities allow short-term stays and others prefer long-term residents.

What services do Care Suites provide?The most unique service offered in Care Suites is detailed care provided to the resident 24 hours a day / 7 days a week by an LPN and / or RN. Care Suites provide a high staff-to-resident ratio of continuous care.

As far as other advanced medical care such as bariatric care, Coumadin management, wound care and wound vac, tube feedings, IV and push meds, and diabetes care, Care Suites vary in what they provide.Please refer to our grids for these services.

How do you pay for Care Suites’ services?Care Suites are typically paid for privately via a monthly set rent established by each community. The rent covers the resident’s room and board, meals, housekeeping and various amenities offered by the AL or RCH.

Other advanced medical services necessary to the resident may be reimbursed by their Medicare Part B benefit. If the resident is transitioning into a Care Suite following a 3-day minimum inpatient hospital stay, the Medicare reimbursement for room and board will not apply. The RN case manager will assist each resident through this process. Some communities do accept CADI / Elderly Waiver.
