 PRESS RELEASE INTERNATIONAL WOMEN’S DAY 5TH MARCH The Ministry of Gender, Children, Disability and Social Welfare wishes to inform the general public that Malawi will once again join the internaona l community to commemorate the 2015 Internaonal Women’s Day (IWD) which falls on 8th March every year but this year it will be commemorated on 5th March, 2015. The day was set aside by the United Naons to promote women’s rights and women’ s parcipaon in polical, social and economic development. The internaonal theme for 2015 Internaonal Women’s Day is “Make It Happen”.  The theme demands that UN member states should focus on acon. For Malawi the situaon at hand takes cognizant of the women and children aected by the oods in the 15 districts and that some are experiencing violence and discriminaon in the camps. Let us unite to ght all forms of violence against women and children who have been displaced by the oods. During the period, the Ministry of Gender , Children, Disability and Social Welfar e in collaboraon with the Development partners and stakeholders will carry out various acvies. The aim of the acvies is to raise awareness on the need to protect and promote women’s rights all me, building resilience among the aected and ensure life connuity aer the oods. The main event will be held on Thursday 5th March, 2015 at Chisugulu CDSS Ground in Tradional Authority Jenala in Phalombe District. The funcon will be presided over by His Excellency Professor Arthur Peter Mutharika, President of the Republic of Malawi . The day will be marked by various acvies including songs, drama, comedies, tradional dances, displays and speeches will be done. The Ministry is, therefore, calling upon all Malawians to join the IWD commemora on at Chisugulu CDSS ground and parcipate in similar acvies in their respecve districts and communies. For Malawi the situation at hand takes cognizant of the women and children affected by the floods in the 15 districts and that some are experiencing violence and discrimination in the camps. Let us unite to fight all forms of violence against women and children who have been displaced by the floods.
