Dear Parents & Caregivers We are now into the second half of our term and continue
to have our students engaged in various learning. Our K-2 students had their Athletics Carnival last Friday. After
having to postpone the Carnival due to rain, it was wonderful to have such glorious weather. Thank you to those parents, carers and extended family member who
came to share the day with our students.
We have our Book Week parade this Friday for students in Kindergarten to Year 4. Let’s hope the weather is fine and that we can hold the parade under the COLA rather
than the hall.
NAPLAN results for our students in Year 3 and 5 will be sent home TODAY. Please ensure you ask your child for their envelope. These students will also take part in
NAPLAN online next week. Mr King has included information regarding this event later in the newsletter.
Our Father’s Day stall run by our P&C is next Thursday,
August 31st, followed by our next CBS Assembly on Friday, September 1.
Thank you to the 67 families who responded to our survey on ‘Reporting and Parent Teacher Interviews’. This survey
is now closed. Our results will be shared by Mr Green in our next newsletter. Mr King has included information on the ‘Tell Them From Me’ survey our school conducts each
year later in the newsletter.
I look forward to seeing many of our school community at our Book Parade on Friday.
Best regards
Kelly Paton Principal
KINDERGARTEN ENROLMENTS 2018 We are currently taking enrolments for Kindergarten 2018. Please see the office for an enrolment information package.
GENERAL NEWS
PARTNERS IN LEARNING – PARENT SURVEY
Each year we invite parents to complete a short online survey that allows them to express their views
about their perceptions of their children’s experiences at home and school. The information gathered in
this survey is vital as it helps us with school planning and identifying ways we can make our school
better.
We strongly encourage all parents of Harrington Park to ‘have their say’.
The survey can be viewed on a computer, tablets and smartphones. You can access this survey via the
following link:

Many thanks
Troy King, Deputy Principal
PBL AT HARRINGTON PARK PUBLIC SCHOOL
Our current PBL behaviour system has been running at our school for 18 months. It is important that we
constantly review our format to ensure it is providing a structure that supports our behaviour policy.
We would like to invite parents and caregivers the opportunity to provide constructive feedback to help
in the evaluation process. Feedback can be given via the school email, discussing issues with a member
of the P & C committee or in person by attending our next P&C meeting on Tuesday, September 5th 2017
at 7.00pm, where this will be an item on the agenda for discussion.
A parent/carer survey will also be provided towards the end of this term, where you will be able to
communicate your feedback and suggestions. Thank you for your support.
Kerry Smukulis and the PBL Committee
NAPLAN ONLINE SCHOOL READINESS TEST
This term from 14 August to 22 September, schools across NSW will be participating in the NAPLAN
Online school readiness test. The school readiness test is a ‘practice run’ designed to help schools assess
their technical and administrative readiness for the transition to NAPLAN Online.
Harrington Park PS students in years 3 and 5 will be participating in the readiness test between Monday
28th August and Friday 1st September 2017.
The readiness test will involve students in year 5 sitting two, 40-minute assessments, a writing test and
a combined numeracy/literacy test. Year 3 students will sit a 40-minute combined literacy/numeracy test
as they will not participate in the writing test online.
Student participation in the readiness test is an opportunity for them to become familiar with the NAPLAN
Online test format. It is not an assessment of student ability and there will be no reporting of student
results
It is important to note that participation in the school readiness test has no effect on students’ NAPLAN
results from the paper-based tests students sat in May.
There’s a lot more information on the department’s NAPLAN Online website:
https://education.nsw.gov.au/teaching-and-learning/student-assessment/naplan-online
Please see Mr Troy King for further information.

“Mayor For A Day”
On Friday the 4th August, Keeley R of 6W represented Harrington Park Public School at Camden Council’s “Mayor For A Day” competition. Keeley as well as students from a
number of schools in the Macarthur region gave speeches on why they would make a good Mayor of Camden for a day and what policies they would put in place.
Keeley’s speech included how she believed that the wider community should be
involved in the decisions council make, as well as an idea for a Camden Council news and information app. We congratulate Keeley on being a fantastic representative of our
school.
Mr Murdoch
2017 Athletics Carnival, Years 3-6 Thursday 20th July dawned a clear, sunny day just right for our Athletics Carnival. With lane ropes laid, pits raked, stopwatches primed, circles marked, sausages sizzling - we were ready
for a great day! It was wonderful to have so many parents share the day with us. As the day progressed the wind picked up, and records were broken. All of our competitors showed excellent sportsmanship and cheered on their classmates.
It was pleasing to see the great participation and involvement shown by our students across
the different events and throughout the day. School ribbons are filled out and will be given out at stage assemblies in the near future.
Thursday 27th July saw an equally beautiful, sunny, winter’s day for our follow up 800m event. Our students participated in both the 800m and some of the high jump finals. It was once again
terrific to witness the wonderful sportsmanship and encouragement that was given to all participants.
Thank you to all the teachers, parents and students who made our 2017 Athletics Carnival a success. Good luck to those students representing Harrington Park at the Zone Athletics
Carnival.

K-2 Athletics Carnival
The K-2 Athletics Carnival was held Friday, 11th August 2017. It was wonderful to see so many bright
and smiling faces as students rotated through the events, proudly wearing their house colours.
Students enjoyed participating in a variety of events such as long jump, sack races, egg and spoon races,
parachutes and of course the favourite 50 metre sprint race.
Thank you to the wonderful parents, family and friends of Harrington Park who came to cheer on the
children, joining in the fun and assisting on the day. A special note of thanks to the parents and siblings
that assisted teachers on a variety of events that ensured a fun and successful day.
Ms Davis.
