WHAT DOES THIS UPGRADE MEAN FOR YOU?

CardSpot® is upgrading from a desktop version to a web-based card activation and reporting system to improve your experience. You will be able to access the same functionalities and more by simply accessing CardSpot® via a URL.

WHAT DO YOU NEED TO DO TO UPGRADE TO THE NEW CARDSPOT®?

Converting to the web-based version of the program will require a one-time change of the settings of the card reader or “swiper”. This change involves downloading and installing a MagTek applica-tion (see step-by-step instructions to convert the swiper below).

Once the swiper is converted, the web-based version of CardSpot® only requires user internet access to https://cardspot.storefinancial.net/ on a compliant version of Chrome, FireFox or Edge.

All other aspects of CardSpot® remain unchanged. You will be able to access CardSpot® with your current user name and password and access all the functionalities and information you currently have access to.

EML SUPPORT MATRIX

For performance optimization and for continued support, you should ensure that you are working with an EML recommended and/or supported version of operating system, browser and printer.

CardSpot® should not require additional browser, security or firewall settings; however, if a property restricts access to the web, then it will need to add CardSpot® to its trusted sites.

INSTALL THE MAGTEK APPLICATIONHOW TO UPGRADE YOUR MAGTEK SWIPER

Note that this upgrade is for properties configured for English. If your computer is in a language other than English, please contact your EML representative.

ADMINISTRATIVE RIGHTS

In order to download the MagTek Application Conversion Program, the user will need to have permission to download a program or have their IT support download the program on their behalf.

STEP-BY-STEP INSTRUCTIONS

Check your swiper model and what you need to do:

• For model number 21073062: no further action is required. You can connect your swiper and start using the new CardSpot®.

• For model number 21040104: Please proceed with installing the Magtek application and the configuration upgrade below

3. Click on Run

4. When the dialog page opens, click on Next

2. Click on the arrow on the right of the icon at the bottom of your web page and click on Open.

You need to download the MagTek application referenced below on the computer you will use to update the swiper(s).

Note that all swipers must be converted, but all swiper conversions can take place on the same computer.

EML recommends converting one swiper and then using the web-based CardSpot® to ensure you can access the same functionalities BEFORE converting all the swipers at your location. Once converted, the swipers will not work with the old application of CardSpot® installed on your computer.

Click on the launch menu and locate the folder name “MagTek” which includes the USBMSR Demo application

2. If message displayed at the bottom left corner reads “Detected HID Mode Device” then you need to upgrade the swiper and follow the next steps.

For all other messages displayed, please disregard the next steps to upgrade your swiper as it is already up to date. You can go to the Using CardSpot® section.

1. Connect your swiper to the computer via USB port. Launch USBMSR Demo application from the menu.

4. Select “Change to Keyboard’’ file and click on Open.

3. Click on Load File.

During this process, the swiper light may change color and emit a sound.

All users must have permissions to access https://cardspot.storefinancial.net/ from a supported browser on all computers that will support CardSpot®. Existing permissions will work with the web version of CardSpot®. You will continue to follow the same process to add, modify or delete user permissions.

Upon login into CardSpot®, you will need to configure the property and activating location by selecting these from the dropdown menu. The Property dropdown menu selection is preconfigured along with your permissions when your user account is created. If you need to update your user account, navigate to Online Ressources>Document Repository and select the applicable CardSpot® user form and follow the process defined in the form.

The new version of CardSpot® allows users to print a receipt using any printer device configured on the user’s computer. The receipt remains 250 pixels wide, with its length dependent on receipt text and number of items sold.

The new version of CardSpot® also allows users to email a receipt.

Once you are fully functional on CardSpot® web, you may want to uninstall CardSpot® from the programs installed on your computer.

WHY ARE YOU SWITCHING TO A WEB-BASED PLATFORM?

Our new version of CardSpot® is a web-based platform so it can be easier to use, more secure and compatible with the new PCI standards that are coming this fall. This version will have a smoother and more dynamic interface and allow you to sell your gift cards from any PC with internet and browser access. It will also update automatically – no longer will you need to download and install updates. The flexibility of a web-based platform opens the doors to future enhancements of CardSpot® that would not be possible with the current version.

WHY DO I NEED TO SWITCH TO THE NEW CARDSPOT®?

PCI standards will be changing this fall which will cause the current CardSpot® application to no longer be compliant. To follow the new standards, we are taking the opportunity to upgrade CardSpot® to a more flexible web based platform. All the functionality you love with the current CardSpot® and your existing login credentials remain the same in this new version.

WHAT HAPPENS IF I DON’T SWITCH TO THE NEW CARDSPOT®?

The new version of CardSpot® allows EML to be in line with the new PCI standards that are coming this fall. Your older version of CardSpot® will no longer be supported as of March 31st, 2018. When that support is terminated you will no longer be able to access or activate cards through the old version of CardSpot®.

DO I NEED NEW AND/OR MORE EQUIPMENT?

Your current swiper(s) will need to be modified in order to be compatible with this new version of CardSpot®. The modification requires access to the internet as well as permissions to download and install software onto the swiper(s). Your PCs will also need to support the latest or one previous version of the following internet browsers: Chrome, FireFox, or Edge.

DO I NEED TO UPDATE ALL MY SWIPERS?

Yes, all your swipes will need to be updated. EML recommends converting one swiper and then using the web based CardSpot® to ensure you can access the same functionalities BEFORE converting all the swipers at your location. Indeed, once converted, the swipers will not work with the application of CardSpot® installed on your computer which you were using until now.

WHAT COMPUTER PERMISSIONS WILL BE NEEDED TO CONVERT THE SWIPER(S)?

In order to make the necessary modifications to the swiper(s), the following computer permissions will be needed: access to the internet, download software and install software.

HOW LONG DOES IT TAKE TO SWITCH TO THE NEW PLATFORM?

You will be able to use the new version of CardSpot® as soon as your swiper(s) have been updated.

HOW WILL THIS AFFECT MY GIFT CARD SALES?

CardSpot® now offers greater flexibility and will have future enhancements that were not possible with the current version of CardSpot®. The new CardSpot® should enhance the gift card experience for you and your customers.

HOW IS CARDSPOT® WEB PLATFORM SECURE?

CardSpot® uses industry-standard OAUTH principles instead of Basic authentication. OAUTH is less susceptible to man in the middle SSL attacks and does a better job of protecting usernames and passwords.

CardSpot® supports the newest Transport Layer Security (TLS) standards to be in PCI compliance. The CardSpot® will use a more secure protocol to prevent man-in-the-middle attacks when the web application connects to our backend systems.

CardSpot® has also implemented Cross Origin Resource Sharing, or CORS, which gives EML the ability to prevent other applications from invoking our API. This means that someone can’t create a CardSpot® clone application hosted on a different web site and still connect to our back-end systems.

Credentials (username/password) are the keys to the kingdom. Your IT should have a recommended process for passwords and password protection. Should credentials become compromised we would have an audit trail to track logins for those credentials.
