Dear Cardinal Newman High School Community,

Welcome to our 2017 Spring Legacy Gala - Denim & Diamonds! This gala event marks the significance and importance of offering young women and men the opportunity for developing their best in academic and co-curricular achievement, while growing their faith life experience. As we gather for this gala celebration, we annually acknowledge our John Henry Cardinal Newman Award recipients for their significant contributions to our school community. This year we are pleased to honor:

Mrs. Chrystie Prokopakis, UHS ‘80Mr. Avid Valentin

Just as St. Angela Merici and Blessed John Henry Cardinal Newman advanced education of the young in order to prepare them for the world, Chrystie & Avid have been equally devoted to Catholic education. Chrystie, as the current Ursuline Alumnae Association President, leads by example, inspiring others to share their time, talent and treasure with our community. She and her family give tirelessly each year, whether hosting Alumnae Sunday, the Ursuline Crab Feed or ensuring the UHS Alumnae community stays connected. She shares her energy, support and dedication to a scholarship program benefiting all UHS alumnae families at Cardinal Newman.

For over four decades, Avid has shared his kindness with all in our community. As Head of Maintenance, his responsibilities were vast; yet always found a way to go over and above his duties. Every corner of our campus has been imprinted with his fine work and reflects his deep devotion. From his guidance and oversight for the creation of the beautiful Grotto, which remains a special place for prayer and reflection, to the design and implementation of the water fountain, to the placement of the beautiful statue of Jesus, and the restoration of the shrine of Our Lady of Guadalupe, we see his love and heartfelt commitment to our students, faculty and campus. His desire to turn the Cardinal Newman property into a park-like setting is evident by the hundreds of trees and rose bushes on our grounds, each planted, watered and maintained by him. His willingness to lend a hand on any project or to anyone in need of help inspired others to kindness and exemplifies the Christian character of our patrons. We are humbled by the legacy that they have left behind.

On behalf of all of us at Cardinal Newman, we are truly grateful for your generosity and support expressed at this evening’s event. The financial results tonight will allow us to advance our curricular and co-curricular goals for our students. Thank you!

General Auction Rules1. Payment of items purchased by bidder may be accumulated or made following item’s sale at the Cashier area where one may pay with check, cash, Visa, or Mastercard. Payment in full the day of purchase is mandatory unless otherwise indicated.2. All sales are final and there will be no refund on items except where specified.3. Items may be picked up only by exhibiting a Paid receipt to one of the monitors where the item is being held.4. Silent Auction Rules1. All items on the silent auction have bid sheets attached or affixed nearby. Persons desiring to bid must do so by writing in their Bidder’s Number and Amount of Bid on the bid sheet.2. Each increase in bid must at least equal the minimum increase figure stated on the bid sheet.3. Each new bid must be written on the blank line available on the bid sheet.4. All items in the Silent Auction section may be bid upon until the sections are officially closed by the time indicated or the announcer’s declaration. Phase II - Classroom Building Improvements!

Tonight, the Final Paddle Raise will support the next phase of improvements to the Classroom buildings on campus to allow better climate control for our teachers and students. Last

summer we were able to improve 8 of the 15 classrooms with the funds raised from our Gala Final Paddle Raise. Our goal is to fully-fund this year’s endeavor to improve the remaining 8 classrooms so that we may begin construction improvements this summer, and complete this project for the start of the new 2017-18 school year! CN students raised $60,000 through their Jog-A-Thon efforts last fall in support of this project. Show your commitment and support and RAISE YOUR PADDLES to help us match their efforts as we raise another $60,000 tonight!
