Carbon Footprint Reduction
Kelsey Carmichael
Eng. Per 1
What is a Carbon Footprint?
Measured impact of our activities on the environment Measurement of all greenhouse gases we produce
individually, and has measurements in kg of carbon dioxide equivalent
1. Buying Local Organic Food
Organic food has a better chance of being grown in an eco-friendly way
Local food doesn’t have to travel far across different cities and states
Many products such as coffee, must have beans imported and traveled. The trees that coffee beans come from contain more than 100 chemicals, which are sometimes bad and unhealthy

2. Energy-Proof Your Home
Nothing new- just enhance certain things such as, closing your windows as tight as you can and make sure they are closed properly
If you have an attic, make sure that it is properly insulated
Keep heating and cooling systems maintained properly, and if possible, switch to reusable filters. (Can help impact the amount of money saved on your energy bill!)
Switch to fluorescent light bulbs: use about 75% less energy than normal light bulbs and last longer
3. Plants & Gardening
If decorating with plants throughout your household, use native plant species.
These plants are known to grow better and may get shipped shorter distances to your local plant nursery than other plants.
Use organic soil when planting – made using more eco-friendly methods and uses less resources
**Green plants are a good way to offset carbon
4. Reduce, Reuse, Recycle
Try to keep buying products to a minimum
Reusing and fixing something instead of buying a brand new one can help reduce carbon footprints
If you don’t recycle, start now.
Start taking the trash out to the road on garbage night if you don’t do that already.
