Student Retention
Yorke & Longden (2008) identified these reasons for dropping out: disliking the location of the university; expectations of the chosen course of
study; difficulties making friends.

Real student life
Where’s the student voice?
Where does the student voice crop up in our University?
Students themselves can be the best support for one another
PLUS technology can now facilitate this.
JISC recommendations
Our literature review conducted by Mary Ashworth:
Institutional systems responses: Early access to institutional systems
e.g. Blackboard (expectations of course)
Early access to one another e.g. Ning at Bradford (making friends)
We have to be mindful of how diverse our student group is in terms of
Age Background Digital literacy
JISC recommendations
Engagement of students through technology: Twoler Project (University of
Westminster) TAG Project (UCLAN)
JISC recommendations
It’s never been easier!
What are we going to do? Using Twoler experiences of engaging
students we are inviting students to share their stories
Compile a website/online area where these stories can be accessed by everyone coming to UofC
Ultimately maybe extending this so that everyone can access it (like TAG).
