New Alignment Method using a Turntable

A new alignment method named Turntable has been added within the Auto Align options. This method enables you to easily scan an ob-ject in a 360 degrees rotation and align all scan shots automatically without any manual intervention. This alignment method is available when a turntable is connected.

    Management of Multiple Scanners

Multiple scanners can be connected to Geomagic Capture interface at the same time and used to gather more scan data than is possible using a single scanner. All connected scanners can be managed within the Device List in Settings dialog window. You can configure the network settings for each scanner by checking on/off the device in the list.Note: A new dialog section for the alignment between the coordinate system of multiple scanners will be displayed in Settings dialog window when multiple scanners are connected to Geomagic Capture interface.

New Alignment Method for Multiple Scanners

A new alignment methods for multiple scanners have been added in Setting dialog window. Three different alignment methods, Sphere, Best Fit, and Target Markers are provided for the alignment between the coordinate system of connected multiple scanners. Once the coordinate systems of each scanner have been aligned, scan data scanned by each scanner will be created in the application as they are being aligned and paired. If scan data scanned by each scanner have already been aligned using other alignment methods provided in the application, the transform matrix between the coordinate system of each scanner can be updat-ed to Geomagic Capture interface and used for later scanning.

Alignment methods are: Spheres - Used when aligning the scanned parts with spherical features or reference datum balls Best Fit - Used when aligning scanned parts using the whole shape information of a part Target Markers - Used when aligning scanned parts with target markersNote: The Multiple-Scanner Alignment dialog section will be displayed and the alignment methods within the dialog section will be available when multiple scanners are connected to Geomagic Capture interface.

    Enhancements

Reorganized Menus in ToolbarThe menus in the Toolbar have been rearranged and regrouped for a better 3D scan-based design workflow and intuitive users experience. All the menus have been reorganized to emphasize the 3D scan-based design workflow. Especially, all commands that are needed for extracting geometric features from a mesh were rearranged based on the workflow and all tools for editing point cloud or meshes were regrouped in a single place.

Note: Point and Mesh tools will show up in the Mesh Tools menu depending on which type of scan data is loaded on the current document.

Changed User Definitions in Constraints OptionExtract Extrusion, Extract Rotational, and Extract Cylinder commands now provide two ways to constrain the extraction. Not only can you constrain by the orientation of a profile, but also both its orientation and a location.

    Constraint Options in Extract Extrusion

Constraint Options in Extract Rotational and Extract Cylinder

Automatic Sketch Plane Search In the Extract Extrusion command, an intelligent function named Find Sketch Plane allows you to easily find the most appropriate sketch plane around your model. If there is a reference plane that has been aligned to a world axis or a specific axis around the model, you can easily find it with this option and set it as the sketch plane for your body creation.

Additionally, a rotational surface such as cylinder or cone surface body can now be used to constrain the direction or the rotational axis of a sketch profile.

  • 3D Systems, Inc. 7

Enhanced Sketch Search AlgorithmThe sketch search algorithm has been highly enhanced. Even though a target model is not well refined or selected regions are insufficient to extract a sketch profile, this enhanced sketch search algorithm is able to get a clean and closed set of sketch profiles.

    Previous Version New Version

New Measurement Function in End Capping OptionA new function named Pick Vertex has been added in the End Capping option in Extract Extrusion and Extract Cylinder commands. This option enables you to easily set the depth by measuring the distance from a point you picked on a mesh to the sketch plane in for-ward direction or backward direction.

Enhanced Up To Region Functionality in End Capping OptionThe Up To Region option in the End Capping options has been highly enhanced. When you change the end condition in forward or back-ward direction to Up To Region, the application automatically recommend you the most proper candidate region by searching regions in the extrusion direction. In addition to using the best candidate region in the command, this option now enables you to get the correct body results by cutting with a surface fitted from selected regions.

    Previous Version New Version

  • 3D Systems, Inc. 8

New Keep Visible function After an operation is performed, you can now continuously use the command without leaving it by using the new function named Keep Visible. The Keep Visible option is available in all commands for extracting features.

Controllable Scan Merging PerformanceA new option named Performance has been added in the Merge command. This option allows you to control the calculation perfor-mance during the merging process. If you want to get merged scan results in a shorter time, you can now increase the performance level. Please note that a higher performance level speeds up the calculation and improves the merging performance, but may decrease the quality of the resulting mesh.

Enhanced Performance for Mesh Selection and Fitting FeaturesThe performance of mesh selection and feature fitting has been substantially enhanced in this version. You can now select polygonal faces on a mesh seamlessly and get accurate results much faster than before.

    3 FIXED BUGS

Below are a list of bugs fixed in the application.

Wrong sketch profile would sometimes be extracted from selected regions, so that it may have caused the failure of body creations. The sketch search algorithm was enhanced, so this problem has been fixed.

Different sketch profiles would be extracted depending on the depth of zoom view. This bug has been fixed.

When users extrude features from a mesh, the extrude would sometimes be set in wrong directions. This bug has been fixed.

When the Cut option in the Extract Extrusion command was used with surface, it would sometimes cut an existing solid body in wrong direction. This bug has been fixed.

There was an issue that the application would sometimes crash when users picked a point on a mesh to align existing meshes or when users pressed the Align button to run the command. This bug has been fixed.

When performing Undo after regions are divided on a mesh, the mesh would be removed from the feature tree. This bug has been fixed.

Some scan data would sometimes remain in the feature tree even though users deleted all the scan data. This bug has been fixed.

In the Extract Extrusion command, there was an issue that the draft direction would set in wrong direction while one of the depth settings was set to 0. This bug has been fixed.

There was an issue that selection lines would remain on the screen after canceling the selection in the command by pressing ESC key. This bug has been fixed.

When aligning multiple scan data, some of them would be incorrectly listed in the Floating Object list even though users manually select-ed them. This bug has been fixed.

When aligning multiple scan data, the Up and Down arrows in the fixed object list would reset the Floating Object list. This bug has been fixed.

Even if the entire point cloud was deleted, its bounding box would not be 0 (zero). This bug has been fixed.

In the Extract Cylinder command, the Join option worked incorrectly. This bug has been fixed.

The Show/Hide functions would work incorrectly when different types of entities were in the same document. This bug has been fixed.

The measurement unit that was used in the deviation color map was not matched with users unit definition. This bug has been fixed.

Even though all selections were canceled by leaving a command, some selections remained when users entered the command again. This bug has been fixed.

When importing multiple scan data at a time, there was an issue that some of them would be imported even though users canceled the process at the Select Model Units setting prompt. This bug has been fixed.

There was an issue that invisible triangles would be selected while the Select Through option was set to off. This bug has been fixed.

There was an issue that the language setting in the application didnt follow the language setting in SolidWorks. This bug has been fixed.
