Preparation •You will need to make a team ‘capture-trap.’ This could be made using a large ring-shaped object with various ropes attached, so that each team member has a rope to hold. Alternatively, you could drill little holes in the top of a tin can equal distance around the edge and attach long strings to each hole. Ensure you put the holes in the actual base where bottom is, so that when you turn it over, this becomes the top and it can be lifted over the scorpion. You may make a few ‘capture-traps’ depending on your group size, ensure that every person has a piece of string or rope to hold. You will also need your toy scorpion(s) or what ever you are trying to capture. Challenge Outline Each team member holds on to an end of string/ rope from their ‘capture- trap’ They have to work as a team to manoeuvre the trap to place it over the scorpion. (Place the scorpion a good distance away at the start) Adaptations Make the string longer/ shorter; place the scorpion higher up on a log stump; use more/ less pieces of string or rope for each ‘capture-trap’; change what you are capturing to match your topic, e.g. Rainforest creatures; escaped farm animals; pirate figures; Roman soldiers, mini-beasts for spider’s etc. Curriculum Links (Links could be made to any topic or objective, but general links are listed below.)
