CapitalCare Norwood Re-Development Project .........................................................................................................................
CapitalCare Norwood Re-Development Project .............................................
Norwood Redevelopment Project highlights:• Joint project with Alberta Infrastructure, Alberta Health, CapitalCare and Alberta Health Services.
• $364 million expansion approved in Alberta government spring 2017 budget.
• 40,000 square metre expansion will accommodate a broad range of programs and services in a new and renovated space.
• The expansion will allow for Person Centred Care by providing healthcare services for residents in one area, reducing the need to visit several facilities throughout the city.
•
Why is expansion at Norwood needed?• Growing need in the Edmonton area for continuing care capacity including complex and post-acute care.
• Improve the operation of the acute care and continuing care systems in Edmonton by reducing the demand for emergency department visits, inpatient acute care services, and reducing continuing care placement.
• The current site is too small to accommodate the project expansion.
• In order to build a modern facility that meets current standards and needs.

Community services to be provided in the new expansion:• Specialty dental clinic
• Community paramedic program
• CHOICE – day program to keep seniors healthy and at home
• Hemodialysis
• Pulmonary rehabilitation
• Respiratory outreach and respiratory benefits program
• Facilities to support continuing care education and research

Why expand on the west side? • Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital is on the east side.
• Underground tunnels connect Norwood with Glenrose Rehabilitation Hospital and the Royal Alexandra Hospital to provide vital health services and programs to residents.
• To build on other locations on the site would require shutting down building services and relocating the residents while construction is progressing.
