Review – Capability & Projects

Our Capability Review and Project Review services begin with an assessment specific to each client objective, ranging from an informal executive-level appraisal through to more formal assessment techniques against recognised standards. We recognise “best practice” as OGC’s Project, Program & Portfolio Management Maturity Model (P3M3), together their Portfolio, Programme and Project Office (P3O) guides. Both OGC and the PMI have many practice guides for managing Projects, Programs, as well as specific aspects of Project Management such as Estimating and Planning/Scheduling. We recognise PMBOK as the basis of Project Management accreditation.

We provide in-depth reviews in Capability, PMO, Toolset, Projects and Programs, as well as Post Project/Program Reviews to provide an independent assessment with a focus on how to improve the next project.

People – Training & Education

We equip your team with the skills they need to deliver better business outcomes. Our modular training and mentoring services are adapted to each specific environment to ensure individuals and teams acquire knowledge and skills that are immediately applicable to their role.

We offer a range of training services that are designed to achieve tangible benefits through pure and applied knowledge. With a focus on competency development, aligned to learning outcomes, we run training for all Project, Program and Portfolio Management staff. Our training covers Project Managers, Program Managers, Portfolio Managers, PMO staff, Iteration Managers, Project Sponsors, Project Governance Stakeholders, Team Leads/Line Managers and Team Members. We have a modular approach to training, primarily structured around PMBOK supplemented by key aspects of PRINCE2, MSP and AGILE.

Our coaching services are designed to support senior managers, executives and sponsors behind the scenes, to assist with interpretation of information, understanding what they need to do, how to deal with vendors and to assist with decision making.

Process – Advice & Consulting

Our advisory services cover the end-to-end investment and delivery lifecycle of Projects, Programs and Portfolios, from inception through to benefits realisation and beyond.

Based on industry best practice, together with educating ourselves about a customer’s business, we review, recommend and implement methodology and process change. Being specialists in tools as well as governance, we can advise where process must provide the end outcome and on where process change will reap benefits. We advise customers on the right balance of process and flexibility within their project, program and portfolio environments, taking a pragmatic approach to ensure that the appropriate level of control is put in place.

We understand Governance – both project and organisational so can advise on setting up governance controls which will help deliver strategic outcomes.

Toolset – Implementation

We believe systems and toolsets are implemented most effectively when there is a shared understanding across the organisation of the operating model into which they fit. The operating model must be agreed before requirements can be gathered. Core Consulting Group approach an implementation (regardless to the tool) beginning with a unique and structured “Concept of Operations” workshop.

We advise customers on pragmatic requirements as well as the approach to selecting and configuring a range of project systems and tools. We also advise on recovery strategies where clients may have a toolset but it is poorly implemented and/or not utilised. We are experienced with Microsoft Project, Microsoft Project Server (EPM) and Project Online, EPMLive, Primavera, Bijingo and many others. We are an accredited partner for EPMLive and Microsoft.
