CAPABILITY SCOTLAND EDINBURGH SERVICES NEWSLETTER Star Wars film review by Gary Steele and Keith Mitchell There’s been lots of Star Wars movies made. The newest film “Rogue One,” is the 8 th film made. This was released at the cinema in December 2016. It’s an action packed science fiction film. The story is about a group of rebels who try to steal the Death Star plans which is the villain Darth Vader’s secret super weapon. It has lots of British actors in it and the main star is Felicity Jones, who plays Jyn Erso. We thought this was a very good film and one of the best so far. For all you Star Wars fans out there, a new film will coming to the cinemas around Christmas time. This will be called “The Last Jedi.” We can’t wait that long, so we will be checking the internet for any clips coming our way. It’s due for DVD release in March and we will be 1 st in the queue to buy a copy. “May the force be with you.”

Hibs Football story by Johnathan Carlisle

Hibs were formed in 1875. A lease on the Easter Road Site

was acquired in late 1892 and they played their first match

there on the 4th February 1893.

Sir Tom Farmer owns most of Hibernian. Neil Lennon was

appointed the coach of Hibs in June 2016.

Hibs have won the Scottish cup in 1887, 1902 and after a 114

year run without a win in the competition by beating Rangers 3-

2 with a stoppage time goal from club captain David Gray in

2016. They have won the Scottish league cup 3 times in 1972,

1991 and 2007.

Hibs have a traditional local rivalry in Edinburgh with Hearts.

The Edinburgh derby match between the two clubs is one of

the oldest rivalries in world football with the latest derby having

finished 3:1 to Hibs taken place on 22nd February 2017.

“Glory Glory to the Hibees” is the anthem for Hibs although the

Proclaimers who are lifelong Hibs fans and where also involved

with the “hands off Hibs” campaign, to save the club in 1990.

The title from their Sunshine on Leith album has become a Hibs

anthem.

Julie Watt’s latest news…

Here’s what’s going on in the Craigmillar hub…

I asked my friends about what they’ve been up to since our last

edition.

I’ve been in crafts with my friends recently.

I’ve embroidered a picture of love hearts of a Valentine’s

present for Stuart.

My friends have been making Valentine’s decorations.

We used these for the disco. Some of the things we made were

flowers, post boxes, love hearts and funny selfie sticks.

Now everyone has been busy making Easter crafts making

rabbits, eggs, and chicks. They are decorating a season tree

for spring and summer.

Joanne and I also started making bags to sell. We used the

embroidery machine in the art room to design the bags. First

we picked the designs and chose the size they would be. We

then set up the machine and we watched our designs come to

life! The designs we made were crabs, starfish and seashells.

This is for the under the sea project as well.

Everyone is working hard on the projects.

All of our creations for this project will be displayed at an

exhibition when everything is complete. The date and venue

will be announced nearer the time.

We’re the DJ group, we meet weekly in Craigmillar. We

organise discos and parties together. So far, we’ve held 2

discos and we are planning to do some future events.

We chat about the music we like and think about what other

people would like to listen to as well. Then we compile our

playlists and download the music onto a computer & make up

our CD’s for the discos.

Our last disco was a Valentine’s one. We had a quiz and raffles

too. We’d like to thank everyone who donated some of the

prizes. We made a profit which we’ll put towards another party.

Congratulations to the quiz winners and here is list of them:

Mary Wight, Mary Liberton, Ashleigh Kemp, Becky Douglas,

Steve Lang, Stacey Foot, Suzanne Hook, Iman Ahmed, Alan

Simpson, Anne Dickson, Dot Wallace, Julie Watt, Stuart

Wittaker, Gail Pollock, Jenny McHale and Vincent Abercrombie.

We enjoy the banter and good fun we have in our group. It was

great to see our pals having a good time and it was nice to

meet new friends too from other community groups.

Our music was first class! We got a few music requests and for

us the cheers from the crowd made our day. Thanks to

everyone who came. Big thanks also to Rosa Allan who sang

beautifully the Elvis Presley classic “Love Me Tender.”

It was so nice to catch up with our pals and the people we love

dearly By Shehad Ahmed, Craig Pimm, Davie

Brown, Larry Gillerlane, Alan Simpson and

ALL ABOUT A GAME OF RUGBY

A game of rugby has 2 teams and the actual game is played

for 80 minutes. It is played for 40 minutes each half. The rules

of it are when you score a try that is worth 5 points, a

conversion is worth 2 points, and a penalty is worth 3 points.

There are the 6 nations where is usually played at Murrayfield.

When you’re passing the ball it’s got to be a back pass and if

it’s a scrum you must stay on your feet at all times.

For the 6 nations they are away or at home. The teams are

Scotland, England, Ireland, Wales, France and Italy. They

have their own type of anthem which they sing before the start

of the match. The Scottish anthem is “Oh Flower of Scotland”

the Irish one is “Ireland’s Call” the English one is “God Save

The Queen” the French one is “La Marseillaise” The Italian one

is “II Cantodelgli Italiani” and the Welsh one is “Hen Wlad

Fynhadali”.

Each team has their own rugby top. The referee has red and

yellow cards which mean the yellow is a sin bin that’s only for

10 minutes. The red one means that you are sent off. As the

game is being played the players are usually fighting and

depending on who the referee is he decides on what card the

player should get. Sometimes when the game is being played

the players get injured also they tackle each other.

There is a league table also a rugby union table to show how

many games have been played, won, drawn, lost, points for

and against and points at the end. There are dates that show

when the games are due to be played. At the end of the

season for the 6 nations it depends on the position each team

goes into.

Sister Act The Musical Review

Recently, I went to The Playhouse to see the musical Sister

Act. I thought it was very good and I would definatley

recommend this to my friends.

Sister Act is about a church that is about to be closed down in

America. The nuns in the story try to save the church.

The musical starred Alexandera Burke who won the X - Factor

a couple of years ago.

I was so surprised to see that Craig Revel Horwood, directed

and chroegraphed the show.

I’ve only seen him on the TV show Strictly Come Dancing.

Craig introduced the musical to everyone, which was a

wonderful surprise. I have seen both of the films on TV but this

was my favourite one because it was live and I could really feel

the energy of the show. I was also really impressed by

Alexandra’s performance. From winning X - Factor, Alexandra’s

now a West End leading lady.

Our Day Out On The Barge from Riccarton

On Monday, 10th April we headed out for a day out on the

Seagull Trust Barge and what an amazing day we had!

The sun was shining which brought a smile to our faces. We

boarded the barge at Ratho Marina and set off west down the

Union Canal.

On the barge we were watching the wonderful wildlife on the

water and along the banks of the canal too. We saw ducks and

swans on the water, some squirrels and rabbits darting in and

out of the trees on the banks of the canal.

We were going around lots of bends and under bridges waving

to passers-by walking their dogs and riding their bikes. Halfway

down stream we met our delivery driver Toni with the lunches,

which we forgot!!!! Deliveroo!!!!. We had lunch on the barge

and had a chance to buy some souvenirs before heading

outside in the sunshine for our final part of the journey. As we

made our way to the mooring we watched the other boats dock

and waited for our turn.

As we left the barge, we said thank you to the Seagull Trust

Volunteers and made our way back to Riccarton.
