Morson Projects provides engineering consultancy services to the manufacturing and

process industries. Our proven experience allows us to serve a diverse range of industry

clients, including those working in: bulk chemicals, household goods, food processing and

agrochemicals.

Operating in a true multi-disciplined engineering and technical environment allows Morson

Projects to provide total project delivery solutions.

Our scope of operation covers end to end production process support from concept,

process design, detailed design, fabrication, installation, commissioning, upgrade/de-

bottlenecking and decommissioning.

Morson Projects also provide consulting services, process assessments, asset care, feasibility

studies, technology evaluations and in-process troubleshooting.

Morson Projects actively apply best practice from the sectors and industries that we operate

in. This results in a very lean design and project management process, thereby increasing

the value for our clients, utilising the latest 3D laser scanning, CAD tools and programme

management methodologies.


4.1. Capabilities

Morson Projects has experience of Design Engineering, Installation and Commissioning of

both primary and secondary electrical systems including switchgear, circuit breakers,

transformers and protection. Particular capabilities include: In-house design and

engineering / CAD team working on new build and interface engineering projects;

Switchgear and control panel design, procurement and build; Installation and testing

capabilities, with a proven track record of new build, integration of new and existing

switchgear, protection refurbishments, SF6 handling and testing, fully structured and

phased site-work packages, TP141 commissioning engineers; Post-installation services

including full commissioning of transformers and substation protection, site demobilisation,

service and support. Morson also have a capability for installation and commission of LVAC

equipment including Diesel Generators.

Site services cover the Installation and Commissioning of transformers, switchgear and

protection relay panels for transmission and distribution power systems up to 400kV

including gas insulated and open terminal equipment.

Commissioning of Multifunctional IED Relays is carried out utilising the latest computer

controlled 3 phase test sets to digitally generate high accuracy test signals.

Morson Projects provide engineers who are National Grid competent personnel, capabilities

include: Project Management, Interface circuit design, layout/Space management Design,

Site Management, CDM Application, Risk Assessments and Method Statements, Installation

& Commissioning of substation primary equipment, 'Light current' wiring modification and

installation work, Installation, glanding, and termination of multi-core/pair cable.

Morson Projects Control, Electrical and Instrumentation team is centred on a formidable

team of dedicated engineers, designers and draughtsmen. This provides our clients with a

flexible outsourced solution, capable of delivering complex, challenging, high and low

voltage design projects.


The group provides initial concepts, through to production of drawings and documentation,

to commissioning and testing.

The Control, Electrical and Instrumentation team includes the provision of designs for

Building Services (power, lighting and heating), Motor Control Centres, Switch Rooms, and

Process Control including microprocessor systems (PLC).

This includes front end design, detail design, manufacture, optioneering and plant layouts in

Project Title Infrastructure Upgrades

Detailed Description of the Project

Morson Projects have a 20 year history working at the client’s site and are now established

as supplier of choice. Morson Projects personnel are an integral part of the client’s intent for

the outsourcing of engineering design, commissioning support, plant permit systems and

documentation control system.

As part of an on-going agreement, Morson Projects are responsible for the installation and

commissioning of manufacturing plant at the clients North West site, with work being

undertaken both on site and at Morson Projects offices in Manchester.

The work is varied and can involve food chain projects from new build (green & brown field

sites) to plant modifications, refurbishments, extensions and infrastructure upgrades etc.

and Morson Projects project engineers are totally responsible for KPI’s, and the issuing of

monthly progress reports against the projects. Project design work also includes for the

product adaptation and capacity change engineering maintenance for the plant.

Project Title Efficient Design Organisation (EDO)

Syngenta


Syngenta Ltd is the world’s largest manufacturer of Agrochemicals and was formerly known

as Zeneca and before that ICI. Prior to the year 2000, Syngenta had numerous design

organisations and agencies undertaking various projects of differing disciplines. Morson

Projects proposed a radical new approach called the ‘EDO’ (Efficient Design Organisation)

where one company would become the single organisation to undertake all multi-

disciplined design packages. This covered the total project lifecycle from specification to


handover.

Morson Projects and Syngenta worked together for several months on the business case,

structure, execution and communication strategy, shared savings plan, measures and KPI’s.

The contract was launched in August 2000. First year savings of over £300k (20%) were

achieved and hailed as a success by senior management. Greater savings were also

achieved in Year 2 and were acknowledged as the biggest contributor to the UK revenue

reduction plan, named ‘Project Flagship’.

Through the implementation of our quality systems and control measures, which have been

adapted to suit the clients’ needs, Morson Projects has a totally integrated team.

All engineering and design hours are controlled and monitored using the bespoke Morson

Projects database, providing a transparent and auditable system, enabling us to account for

all hours expended.

Project Title VGI-2 Modelling

NSG (Pilkington)


NSG (Pilkington) builds on average one new £200M glass float production facility every two

years, and the Group operates 55 plants worldwide. Speed to the market is a major driver in

all new build projects and Pilkington’s have looked at utilising a 3D model of the plant in

order to minimise design changes mainly due to clashes that have previously been identified

during the build. Morson Projects were selected to work in partnership with Pilkington’s to

develop a 3D model of the VGI-2 facility in Vietnam using AVEVA PDMS.


The model will confirm all interfaces between the foundations, buildings, process plant and

all services will be checked in terms of space management. It will allow detailed material

lists and Isometrics to be produced for quicker and more precise site contract quoting and

installation, which will save significant rework, cost and time during construction.

Once completed, the detailed intelligent model will allow the client to “walk through” the

facility – Providing opportunities in terms of training and maintenance of the site team

operating the completed build In addition it has already proved to be a notable aid for

considering new designs of future installations.

Comprising of a team of 8 Designers, 6 working on the 3D Model, 1 on P&IDs and 1

supporting.

Using 2D reference information from a previous Glass Factory build in Russia and marked up

P&IDs, the team has been required to deliver an integrated 3D model of the new proposed

VGI-2 glass Float Line to be built in Vietnam. The following deliverables were required:

A 3D integrated design of the factory foundations, buildings, process equipment, access

platforms, piping, ducting and cable trays. Including various levels of instrumentation,

demonstrating a clash free design within a tolerance of +/- 75mm.

This project required a complete set of intelligent P&IDs for all systems and processes.

As an output of the above, Material Take Off Lists - Line lists, Valve listings, Equipment Data

sheets, Plant Arrangement drawings, Piping/Ducting/Cable Tray General Arrangements and

Isometrics.

Software used includes AVEVA PDMS version 12.0 for the build, converted to Navis Works

Manage 2012 as the final format. Also AVEVA P&ID and AVEVA Instrumentation used.

Project Title Kersal Vale Project Anastasis

PZ Cussons


Morson Projects was responsible for supplying Electrical and Instrumentation Detailed

Design to the new factory being built at Kersal vale. Scope of work included producing

detailed specifications for MCC’s and distribution boards and detailed layouts for electrical

equipment and cable routing. 2D layouts were produced for input to the 3D model (Navis).

Morson Projects used the model to identify routes before design, reducing de‐clashing to a

minimum.


Close liaison with PZ Cussons design team and the main process contractor was essential in

the progression of the project.

Morson Projects also provided both installation and commissioning support to the PZ

Cussons project team, including overseeing the installation of all MCC’s and switchboards.

Project Title Distribution Centre, Ikorodu

Morson Projects were responsible for supplying Water Supply Distribution (both domestic

and services), Fire Piping and Hydrants, Electrical Distribution, Lighting and Small Power, Fire

Detection and Security, IT and Communication systems Detailed Design for a new

distribution centre at Ikorodu, Nigeria. Scope of work included producing detailed

specifications for MCC’s and distribution boards and detailed layouts for electrical

equipment, lighting and cable routing and all supporting calculations. Full electrical and

mechanical material take-offs were produced to allow overseas installation.

Project Title Gas Generation Plant, Ikorodu

PZ Cussons


Morson Projects provided engineering support to the PZ Cussons in‐house design team

producing detailed drawings including SLD’s, Earthing Schematics, 2D Layouts and cable

routing for the extension to the original Gas Generation Facility at Ikorodu. Cable routes

were detailed with full material take‐offs to allow the overseas installation. All cable

calculations we undertaken using Amtech ProDesign.


Project Title Gas Replacement MASFE Plant Assessment

Sellafield Sites Ltd.


Sellafield Limited are installing a new Medium Active Salt Free Evaporator Plant at Sellafield.

The design of the plant is similar to a plant that is already installed at Sellafield. The Morson

Projects Piping team has been involved on a number of tasks such as; reviewing the design

and calculations of the existing plant, reviewing preliminary line designs, carrying out visual

assessments of non-stress critical lines and stress analysis of a number of critical lines design

of the new plant is acceptable.

The team has worked closely with the Sellafield Limited plant design, CS&A and Vessel

departments to ensure that the design of the new plant is acceptable.


4.3. Key Resource

Morson Projects personnel skills level range from Chartered Engineers/Senior Designers to

Junior Engineers/Designers. Morson Projects challenge themselves with providing ‘suitably

qualified experienced personnel’ that are ‘fit for purpose’ to meet a project needs and

together with their associate company Morson International are able to offer the maximum

flexibility to meet all Clients requirements. Morson Projects are also able to offer both

‘Radiological Classified’ and ‘Security Cleared’ (Basic Clearance and above) who are

experienced in working at nuclear and defence sites.
