Experience
Geotechnics Limited has worked in a wide range of industry sectors to provide ground investigation and geoenvironmental services.
Projects and Clients
Geotechnics Limited were engaged under the United Utilities site investigation framework to provide geotechnical and geoenvironmental data to enable United Utilities Engineering to plan further investigations and begin design of a 1400m long pipeline across the inter-tidal area.
The difficult access and obvious risks associated with working in a
potentially dangerous area were coupled with working in a protected
environment that is classified as a Special Area of Conservation (SAC),
Special Protection Area (SPA), a Site of Special Scientific Interest
(SSSI) and a Ramsar (Wading birds).
The project provided Geotechnics Limited the opportunity to showcase
their innovative, versatile, and environmentally sensitive Hagglund
Hybrid Cable Percussion rig.
Geotechnics Limited were appointed to deliver a large complex Ground Investigation to provide data for the design of the lowering of the A63 close to the Town Centre, with associated slip roads, carriageway widening, footbridges, underbridges, retaining walls, earthworks and foundations.
Stakeholders worked together to overcome logistical difficulties, working with affected landowners and the challenges of archaeological and environmental interests. The high level of cooperation and understanding of each other’s role in the investigation process, and the commitment to deliver technical excellence and value engineering was recognised as a major factor in completing the works on time, on budget with the support and approval of various groups.

Plans for the development of a 50,000ft2 food store for Tesco and
some 260 housing units on what was considered to be an undevelopable site led to Geotechnics Limited being appointed by Pinnacle Consulting Engineers to provide Site Investigation, geotechnical advice and specialist in-situ instrumentation and monitoring.
In order to comply with flood risk assessments, the site required the importation of more than 245,000m
3 of material to bring it up to level.
Bringing the material in by road was not practical due to the volumes required and the likely disruption to the local residents. The solution was to deliver the imported fill to the site via a dredger and temporary pipeline structure operated by Westminster Dredging, preventing 30,000 lorry movements on local roads.
Remote monitoring of settlement cells buried beneath the development area enable an unrestricted and continuous record of settlement readings as the site was filled, allowed Geotechnics Limited to continually assess the reaction of the ground to the additional loads.
