Laughter fills the air as young pediatricpatients paddle their canoes around the

lake at Camp Star Trails. Learning to goforward (not backward!), splashing and

collisions with other canoes make thisactivity a favorite. All Star Trails campers are

either pediatric cancer patients or siblings of thepatients. Here, they are surrounded by others with

similar experiences stemming from a cancer diagnosis andtreatment. They are immersed in a supportive environmentfocused on the delights of camp life. The long-lasting influenceof this week is a sense of independence and self-confidence.

Camp Star Trails provides important social opportunities for all campers. They enjoy reconnecting with friends and the many

activities available: horseback riding, fishing, arts and crafts, music,canoeing, cooking classes, swimming and scaling a tower to accomplish

the challenging ropes course. Behind the scenes, the children are fully supported by a network of MD Anderson medical staff. Camp also provides the opportunity to interact with doctors, nurses and counselors in the playful camp environment.

Funding for the camp is provided annually by the purchase of cards and gifts from theChildren’s Art Project at MD Anderson Cancer Center. All CAP products start in theweekly art classes at MD Anderson Children’s Cancer Hospital, tutored by art teachersturned hospital volunteers.

Whether fishing at dawn or surrounding a campfire in the evening, Star Trails is influential in the lives of young cancer patients and their siblings. Thank you for making this week-long overnight camp possible for more than 150 kids every summer.
