If a plan is set up, please pay the exact amount due on or before the due date - interest is calculated into the plan. You must set up a payment plan prior to April 1st and the 1st payment must be received by that date to avoid being turned over to the attorney for collection. NO PLANS WILL BE SET UP AFTER APRIL 1st. The earlier you call to set up a plan, the easier it will be to work the plan into your budget. The board is willing to work with those hav-ing financial difficulties, but urges all homeowners to set a plan up early and keep up with the payments.

LOOSE ANIMALSThere have been a number of loose animals in the community recently. Please be mindful of your pet and regularly check the perimeter of your fence to be sure it will stay safely within the con-fines of your yard. There are many people who are afraid of pets (dogs in particular) and can find them very frightening, even it if they are not aggressive.

REMINDER ABOUT PARKING REGULATIONSPlease be aware that overnight parking regulations will be more strictly enforced (NO CURbSIDE PARKING between the hours of 11:00 PM - 9:00 AM). Our streets were not designed for parking and are simply not wide enough to accommodate all the vehicles. School buses as well as garbage trucks have, at times, been unable to navigate in our community due to the large number of vehicles parked in the street. It is also very difficult to back out of a driveway when there are multiple vehicles parked across the street. Please park vehicles in garages or driveways.

RECREATION CENTER RENTALThe recreation center has a room available for parties, meeting, reunions, etc. A signed contract plus a $300 security deposit will hold your reservation. Homeowners must be current on their dues (or payment plans) and rental fees must be received prior to the party. The rental rate is $35 an hour with a two-hour minimum. The key for the clubhouse is to be signed out and returned to the guards in the guardhouse. Please READ THE CONTRACT CAREFULLY before signing - this is a binding legal document and the rules and regulations stipulated in the contract will be enforced. Call the onsite office for additional information.

HARRIS COUNTY TOLL TAGSPlease call the onsite office (281-492-6020) or email us to register your Harris County toll tag ([email protected]). The following information is required: Name, Address, Vehicle Make & Model and Old and New EZ Tag Numbers. Please do not give tag information to the guards - they do not have access to the gate computer. PLEASE REMEMBER to have your old tag number available when you are registering a new tag, so we can remove it from the system.

The sticker-type EZ tags can be programmed into the system. However, the signal is not as powerful as that of the battery-powered tags. Please approach the gate slowly and stay as close to the left median as possible (that is where the reader is located); the new tags can’t be read by the system until you are very close to the gate.

The recreation center lobby is not to be used as a gathering place for kids to socialize. The Association is asking for all homeowners who use these facili-ties to help with watching over these areas. If a child is under the age of 18 and is in the fitness center without a parent or guardian or appears to be simply loitering in the lobby, please politely ask them to leave. Thank you.

eZ taGs FoR FRont Gate access The Homeowners’ Association sells EZ tags that will open the resi-dent gate at the Canyon Gate entrance. Residents may purchase these at the onsite office for $35. These EZ tags contain a battery that should last for, approximately, 3 years. The HOA offers a one-year warranty on these tags. If the battery goes bad and your EZ tag stops working within the first year, the tag will be replaced at no cost. If your EZ tag stops working after the one-year time limit, a new EZ tag will need to be purchased.

animals / pets contRolPlease respect your neighbors’ yards and their personal space ….. remember that pets must be confined to a fenced back-yard or within the house and must not allowed to bark all night long or cause a nuisance to neighbors. They must be on a leash at all times when away from this contained environment. It is also the pet owner’s responsibility, when walking their pet within the subdivision, to keep ALL areas free of pet debris. Please remember that cats must also be confined. Katy tween/teen talent ShowcaSe competition

Global Arm, Inc. and Teens Exercising Extraordinary Success (T.E.E.S.) hosted the inaugural Katy Tween Teen Talent Showcase Competi-tion on Saturday, December 3, 2011, at Zo-ca-lo Lounge (510 Mason Road). Contestants from Katy ISD and Ft. Bend County ISD entered the competition. Along with their parents, they networked with many recording industry professionals and received valuable advice on career paths, personality, stage presence and business matters. Lunch was provided courtesy of Chick-fil-A (369 South Ma-son Road). Music industry packages containing valuable information regarding publishing, copyright, promotions and marketing were given to each contestant. Two of the contestants performed original numbers and the others treated the audience to covers by Carrie Underwood, Selena Gomez, Etta James and Jamie Fox. Vocal ability wasn’t the only surprise of the day - two of the contestants performed their numbers by playing the guitar. The 1st place winner of the showcase was Ms. Reagan Doug-las, of Katy, TX. Ms. Douglas performed a song she wrote entitled, Till The End (dedicated to Cancer victims), with her guitar; 2nd place winner was Ms. Skyler Sadler (Katy, TX) who performed At Last by Etta James; and the 3rd place winner was Ms. Kaitlyn Wright (Katy, TX) who performed Change by Carrie Underwood. Each winner re-ceived a trophy, courtesy of Katy Trophies. 2nd and 3rd place winners received a Chili’s Gift Card, courtesy of Don McGill Toyota. The 1st place winner won a package valued at over $16,000 which consisted of a complimentary studio session at Music World Studios (courtesy of Matthew Knowles), a complimentary photo shoot (courtesy of Jamie LeBlanc Photography), a featured song on Coast 2 Coast Mix tape hosted by Wildman Teddy T (courtesy of Star Quality Entourage) and a featured song on the upcoming film soundtrack starring Snoop Dog (courtesy of Vision World Entertainment). Door prizes were given away between performances where audi-ence members won gift cards from Chuy’s Restaurant, Five Guys Burgers & Fries, Red Oak Grill, and Perry’s Restaurant. Additional gift cards were given away from Salt Grass Steakhouse and Carino’s (courtesy of Don McGill Toyota). T.E.E.S. will continue to host future events to raise funds for a Teen Community Center in Katy Texas, as well as expand their Teen Table Talk program to other neighborhoods around Houston. Individu-als or companies interested in donating may do so by visiting the website at www.teeskaty.com. Local businesses, companies and corporations may elect to offer their support by sponsoring any of our fundraising events. Teens Exercising Extraordinary Success (T.E.E.S.) is recognized by the Internal Revenue Service as a 501(c)(3) organization and donations to the organization are tax deduct-ible to that extent allowed by law.

Second Saturday Aluminum Can Collection - If you live in the Houston Area, please consider participating in our “Cans for a Cure” Recycling program.

The second Saturday of each month, Keep Kids Connected collects aluminum beverage cans at the Tradition Bank pin Oak Branch location from 9 AM-12 pM. The proceeds from recycling the cans helps fund the purchase of Netbook computers and pediatric cancer research.

Invite your family, friends, neighbors and co-workers to support this recycling pro-gram and donate their aluminum cans to Keep Kids Connected.

Keep Kids Connected was created to help kids stay connected to family and friends while they undergo their treatment for cancer or any other life-threatening illness. The idea for the organization was created by Caitlyn Mortus who is, herself, a cancer survivor. While going through her treatments, she was given a Netbook computer from a family friend. The computer kept her in contact with her friends and helped keep her spirits up when she was in the hospital for her treatments or unable to have visitors. Her wish

is that every kid battling cancer or any life-threatening illness be given a computer so they can stay connected to their family and friends while they are going through their treatments. Her wish has become our mission. For more information about Keep Kids Con-nected go to the website, www.keepkidsconnected.org or check out their Facebook page! If you would like to get on the contact list for upcoming events, email [email protected].

Fire Fighters will also be out March 10th, April 14th and May 12th to collect funds for the campaign.

The Fire Fighters rely on support and donations from the commu-nity for the success of the campaign. Proceeds raised during the street-side campaign will help support MDA services and research programs, including MDA’s outpatient clinics at Texas Children’s Hospital and The Methodist Neurological Institute. Money raised from Fill-the-Boot also sends young people ages 6-17 to MDA sum-mer camp, held in Burton, Texas.

For more information, please contact MDA Director of Business De-velopment Carrie Dalton at 713-522-3679 or [email protected].

PEARL HARBOR REMEMBERED AT VFWFifteen hundred (1,500) civilians perished on this day, December 7, 1941, known as Pearl Harbor Day, in the premeditated invasion against the United States by the Japanese. There was wide spread fear in the United States, as the US was caught virtually unpre-pared and paid a horrific price. President Roosevelt addressed the Congress the next day and rallied the American people. Four years later the United States received an unconditional surrender and World War II ended in 1945. World War II stretched from 1940 to 1945. There are 405,399 recorded deaths and 670,846 wounded. Totaling 1,076,845 dead and wounded. Photos taken by Rodney Smith, VFW Photographer

Colonel (Ret) Mike Mastranglo, Com-mander, VFW Post 9182, addresses the local boy scouts, veterans and the public. Members share their memories from World War II. Many can be heard from the audience reciting the words from President Roosevelt’s address on December 8, 1941, from memory, as the recording is being played for all in attendance. Others share their memories of mili-tary service during World War II and their thoughts about visiting the USS Arizona Pearl Harbor Memorial in Hawaii after the war.

LIBRARIES ANNOUNCE ADDITION OF FAMILY READING CLUB THIS WINTER

The popularity of Fort Bend County Libraries’ Summer Reading Clubs for children, teens and adults has inspired the library system to add a similar program for families during the winter season. The Family Reading Club began on Saturday, January 21, 2012 and will continue for six weeks through March 3, 2012 at all branches in the Fort Bend County library system.

This six-week program is designed to encourage families to read, learn and have fun together. All Fort Bend County families are eligible to participate. Families who read 36 books or 6 hours – 6 books per week or 60 minutes per week – will be entered into a drawing for a $50 dining gift card, donated by the Friends of the Library. Each branch library will have a drawing for the gift card on March 5, 2012.

A single registration is required for each participating family. An adult (parent or guardian) is asked to register the family online by going to the library’s website and clicking on the “Family Reading Club Sign-Up” image, which will become available January 20, 2012. Families may also register at one of the libraries in the Fort Bend County library system. Upon registering, families will then have their own online page on which to record their books or reading time.

There is no charge to join the Family Reading Club. The program is sponsored by Fort Bend County Libraries and the Friends of the Library organizations that support the county library system. For more information, call the library’s Public Information Office at 281-341-2677 or the library branch nearest you.

Adult ConversAtion GroupReal conversation is not a contest but makes room for many voices whose tone is not violent or abusive but instead as Michael Oakeshott said “humble and conversable.” It offers “the gift of the interval:” when we “look around upon the world without the sense of an en-emy at one’s back or the insistent pressure to make up one’s mind.”

If you enjoy real conversation about current issues and events with a group having diverse backgrounds and perspectives, join us for a cup of coffee on the 2nd Wednesday of each month in room 303 of the Parish Activity Center from 10:00 AM to 12:00 PM. All participants are encouraged to offer topics for the group and approximately a week before the meeting, a tentative agenda of topics will be disseminated.
