Notes from Red Raccoon
I hope you are enjoying/surviving the hot summer weather and creating art. I am looking forward to hearing the next group of members tell about themselves at the July meeting. (see info below) I am also looking forward to our August picnic. (details elsewhere in this newsletter) In the March/April issue I mentioned a painting idea from a dream. I’ve begun to work on it. In the dream, someone had commissioned me to paint the strange subject - two dachshunds playing a piano. A few days after the dream I was visiting my daughter in North Carolina and had an opportunity to photograph her five dachshunds for reference. The quilt I mentioned last time is progressing slowly. Hand embroidery takes a long time, especially when the weather is hot and ambition fades.

ATTENTION CAL MEMBERS! If you were among the fortunate members who either just attended or were featured artists in the first two CAL FAMILY GET AQCUAINTED programs, we encourage you share with us your experience. Just a few words about how you feel this program is accomplishing it's goal of providing us the opportunity to gain a better appreciation of our individual members, their stories and their art. A prompt response would be very helpful. Sincerely, The CAL Board Members.

CAL – CMA Wall Artists
July - Christine Williams
As long as I can remember, I have been interested in the art of drawing and painting . My parents taught and encouraged me, supplying the various art supplies necessary in my early years. My favorite art pieces were done by the old masters and impressionist painters. While in college majoring in nursing, my electives were painting , drawing and jewelry making. Throughout the years while raising a family and working, I took various art classes which included painted ceramics, tole painting, oil and watercolor. My children encouraged me to devote more time to painting after participating in a plein-aire event in Virginia. The past seven years I have been a student of Frank Dale’s, accomplishing my goal of realism painting in the technique of the Old Dutch Masters. Most recently, I have been a student of Nancy Stewart- Matin , studying watercolor techniques, another favorite medium.
I have been a Canton resident since birth, raised our five children and enjoyed a rewarding nursing career . My supportive husband Rick and I reside in Jackson Township with our pets “Toulouse” and” Buddy”.
August - Isabel Zaldivar
It has been a long journey to get to where I am now. I have been expose to many art teachers, workshops, and books
My approach to painting is loose and free. Nature inspires my work in abstract and impressionistic ways. I enjoyed the process of my work exploring, experimenting and composing deferent ways.
