Benefits to the students:

The aim of this programme is to teachinternational students industry skills andknowledge used by NZ farmers to increasefarm production and efficiency.This programme also provides the possibilityfor the student learn English and improvecommunication skills.

This will enable international students towork on a New Zealand farm before theyreturn to their own country and apply theknowledge and skills gained for the benefitof their own country.

This will be done by exposing the farmingstudents to:

Homestay

Renting an Apartment or Sharing a Flat

A few other costs

Living with a New Zealand family is a great way to improve your English and to get toknow more about the New Zealand way of life.

We provide you with a full homestay accommodation service, and your host family iscarefully chosen to meet your wishes concerning special food, hobbies and interests.

On the day you arrive, your host family will meet you at Christchurch International Airport.This is a free service, and will make your first day in New Zealand easy and stress-free.You will be provided with breakfast and dinner Monday to Friday and three meals a dayat the weekends. Your bedroom is private and is furnished with a study desk, heater andbedroom furniture.

All homestay accommodation has been inspected by Canterbury College.

We strongly recommend that you stay in Homestay accommodation for at least the first3-4 months of your studies. This will give you a “turbo start" to learning to communicate inInternational English and will help your formal study.

Flatting is popular with long-term students. Costs of renting apartments vary. You canexpect to pay rent from NZ$180 to NZ$450 per week depending on the location orrenting a bedroom you can pay rent from NZ$100 to NZ$160 per week (usually includingpower, phone and Internet), size and whether or not the apartment/houseis furnished. renting apartments you will have to pay a bond (usually 2-4 weeks’rent in advance), power, phone, and any other amenities such as gas, internet connectionand food.
