Principal’s News Welcome to the start of Term 4. It is great to be back on deck, to see our students and to be able to celebrate the final week of schooling with our Year 12 students. For this small group of students the HSC commences next week. Congratulations to the staff and students on a very successful Athletics Carnival at the end of last term. It was great to be able to see the students outside enjoying themselves despite the interruption at the end of the day by the rain. A big thank you to Mr Rue for his organisation of this fun day. How wonderful it was to be able to hold our end of term assembly outside in what was glorious weather. The opportunity to, as a whole school, celebrate our students achievements over the term for the first time this year and to announce our incoming senior student leadership team was fantastic and was made even more special by the livestreaming of the whole event so as our parents and community could participate, albeit virtually. Over the holidays six new shade structures were added to our playground to support our ‘sunsafe’ policy. The new structures will add to the already existing COLA and four small shade areas. In addition to this, construction work was carried out to provide a new Wellbeing office/area for our School Counsellor and newly appointed Student Support Officer Ms Bonnie Keys. The new area will not be in the main administration area but in a more centralised and accessible position for students. The massive windstorm that went through on the last day of term has resulted in the removal of multiple trees around the school over the holidays. Not only were the trees that were blown over removed but also those that had significant canopy or branch/trunk damage. Despite the damage to trees the school did not suffer any other damage to property. Congratulations to Jasmyn Woods on being the recipient of last week of Term 3 canteen voucher.

Mrs Neryle Smurthwaite Principal

Student Support Officer

We would like to welcome our newly appointed Student Support Officer Ms Bonnie Keys. Bonnie joins the Canowindra High School staff after completing a Bachelors degree in Social Work at CSU Wagga Wagga. Bonnie is originally from Cowra and is happy to be back home. She is taking on a key new role within our school and is here to aid all of our students and help with their wellbeing.

2020 ATHLETICS CARNIVAL On Wednesday of the last week of Term 3 we were finally able to hold our annual Athletics Carnival after some wet weather and Covid-19 restrictions had held it back. The day was enjoyed by all with students and staff getting into the spirit by wearing their house colours. It was amazing to finally be able to undertake some whole school physical activity. The weather held up nicely for the majority of the day with the rain only arriving in the late afternoon. We had some amazing record breakers throughout the day, smashing records held from as early as 1992.
