    Class 1R News:

The pre-schoolers impressed us today with their magnificent rocket ship. We learnt that we need to brush up on our rocket ship building skills to take the next challenge! K/1 have been busy this week practising their athletic skills with Mrs Johnson in preparation for the Small Schools Athletics carnival next Friday. Our class will be participating in fun activities and games organised by the Kindergarten teachers at Wolumla PS. In Writing we are continuing our work on adjectives to turn our simple sentences into super sentences. In Numeracy we are learning lots of fun games with dice and cards to improve our flexibility with numbers to 20. At home you might like to practise counting by 2s, 5s and 10s with your child to build their confidence in skip counting. Science this week was incredibly hands on and very exciting as Mrs Johnson and her group of mini scientists made a galaxy in a bottle! Thank you for your support with the home readers, the children take home two but if you can only fit one in that is fine as long as they are reading every night! Awards this week: Rachael and Max: Great effort in technology. Ivy and Tom: Working hard in Maths.

    Class 2M News:

This week in 2M we have continued our paper planes project called “Up, Up and Away.” We have made three types of paper planes. For the first two we followed given instructions, but the third plane was the student’s own design. Next, we took them outside and flew each plane three times, measuring the distance travelled. Then we graphed our results. The final part of this project will be to analyse our data and see if there are any patterns. Perhaps we will find that a particular type of design flies the

furthest, while another sort is excellent for loop the loops, but doesn’t travel long distances.

In Maths we are exploring efficient addition strategies. At home you can support your child’s numeracy skills by quizzing them on their number facts. All 2M students should know their 2, 5 and 10 times tables and can practice these to build speed. You could use a deck of cards to practice these in random order. Choose a times table to focus on, for example the 5 times table. Then draw a card. If it’s a two the question is 2 x 5 = 10.

We now have brand new, high quality levelled readers in our classroom! It would be fantastic if all 2M students were reading from this new collection. Using these books will help to build your child’s skills across a range of text types and subjects. Readers can be exchanged any day of the week. I check student’s reading records on Wednesdays.

    Awards this week:

Emily: Excellent work in her ‘Up, Up and Away’ Project. Christopher: Fantastic work in Spelling. Oliver: Fabulous work in Drama. Jack: Working hard in reading groups. Naomi Moore

    Class 3BJ News:

A very busy week finalising assessment reviews and preparing for the various projects in which we are involved. Focus on grammar to understand noun groups, verb groups, phrases and clauses to support the development of our writing skills. Developing mental computation strategies and efficient ways of understanding numbers has been most beneficial especially for division and multiplication.

Today the children were very engaged in a second art workshop, developing language skills and composition skills are part of the process.

A lunchtime challenge of Chess certainly had everyone supporting the Grey and Gold teams of competitors.

Well done to the Drama Group who have been rehearsing after school to prepare for the Drama Festival, a note will come home today for the children.

Reading every day is a must, both at school and at home. Reading to your child (no matter what age) can be such a joy and the rich conversations after are always so important.

Next week we are looking forward to the Mogo excursion on Thursday, to consolidate our history focus and Small Schools Athletics on Friday. Please return notes for these excursions by tomorrow.

    Awards this week:

Lacey, Hayden and Jessie: Focus on developing art skills. Koby and Mikah: Developing teamwork skills. Suezanne Bourke and Sam Johnson
