Just a note regarding the 2020 Port Huron Elks Arts & Craft Show. The committee has not been able to email or mail the 2020 contracts and registrations as we had expected by the end of March with the Lodge being closed due to the or-ders by Governor Whitmer. Once the Lodge is open again, we will get them out as soon as we can. Thank you,The Arts & Craft Show Committee

As you all know the March and April Club 343 draws had to be cancelled. The May Banquet will be cancelled as well. We are looking to hopefully have the banquet at some point later this summer and having both March and April draws the same night. As soon as we get it all sorted out, we will get the information out to you. Thank you, Greg & Sue Hudy

Hello friends and members, I hope all of you are staying safe and enjoying spending time with family. In these trying times of the COVID-19 pan-demic, I want you to know that your Officers and Board Members are do-ing everything we

can to keep things rolling in these very unusual times. I also know the Lodge and the golf course will be ready for use once these orders to stay at home are lifted. Trust me, I’m ready for golf and fun myself. We will continue to comply with whatever orders may be issued by the federal and state governments on this particular COVID-19 pandemic. Hopefully soon this will all be behind us and we can get back to whatever life’s new normal is going to be. In closing of this communication, I’d like to thank Jennifer Pratt, John Chambless, Mark Pringle and Brandon Coseo. Great job! Thank you.Fraternally yours,Greg Shannon, Exalted Ruler

Video conferencing With the closing of our Lodges, dur-ing the Coronavirus crisis, all Lodge Officers and Members are encouraged to proceed with their Regular Lodge Meetings and other meetings by means of video conferencing. A relatively new and easy way of conducting business that will help bring our Lodges into the 21st Century. While this is new and dif-ferent for many of us, the use of these advancements in technology are the wave of the future. Zoom.com has emerged as a favored video conferencing platform and a Pro Version of Zoom has been purchased by the Michigan Elks Association for use throughout the state for unlimited meetings with unlimited attendance. Zoom is easy to use and simple to oper-ate and I know many meetings are al-ready being conducted through Zoom. I encourage all Lodges to go to the Zoom.com website and learn how to use this platform for your Lodge and com-mittee meetings until we can return to the Lodge facility for such meet-ings. If you need further information about Zoom, please contact one of the State Trustees, who are the designated “Hosts” for this platform, to assist you. I’m sure there are also many others with knowledge about Zoom that can help your Lodge. Again, it is easy to use by all Lodges and members, either from a cell phone or by computer. Everyone is “live” on screen, so it can create a very interac-tive meeting.

Michigan Elks Field of Honor at Alma Lodge #1400 postponed It is with heavy heart that Randy and I have made the decision to postpone the Michigan Elks Field of Honor sched-uled to be dedicated on May 3. This may seem to be an early decision but because of all of the prep required involving sev-eral people in one place at a time we feel confident that this is a good decision no matter how unpopular. The date will be rescheduled as soon as it is deemed safe. We will still take orders. Any questions call Randy at (989) 506-6332 or email [email protected].

Elaine Helman-Boudreau & Randy Boudreau

Attention Michigan Elk Members and Gold Key Golf outing supporters During these unprecedented times and after careful consideration, the Gold Key Commissioners along with the district golf outing committees have decided to postpone this year’s District Gold Key Golf Outings. The Commit-tees and Commissioners decided that it would not be right to go out and ask small businesses and members who are having tough times right now for dona-tions. We will keep everyone informed as to when they will be rescheduled. We would all like to thank everyone for their support of these outings and hope you can join us again when they are re-scheduled. Your support is vital to our continued success and we appreciate your generosity. We wish you continued health and prosperity. Stay safe and healthy.

May has arrived and it has been quite the journey. This has not been your typical start of the golf season to say the least. Moving forward, let me answer a few questions that I’m sure will arise. First, we will play golf as soon as we get the approval from the Governor. We will abide by the rules that she has set in place. The leagues normally start the first week in May. Once we get our to go date, we will communicate to our league presidents and to the players so we can have our league meetings and then we will establish a schedule. This process will depend on our start-back date. Our tournament schedule will also change. We will still do our popular Opening Day Scramble, but at this mo-ment, I don’t have the date set. We will also cancel some of our events this year. Once we get the back-to golf date, we will then do a revised schedule. The Men’s Invitational July 9-12 and Ladies Invitational July 31 and August 1st are still on schedule. I have back-up dates lined up, but will wait to see if we need to change. On the bright side, soon we will be get-ting back to playing golf and enjoying the Lodge. Once back on the course you will find a couple of changes. We have filled the ditch in on #16. It will certainly take a little time to have the grass to grow in, but the hole will be a fairer tee shot for both ladies and men. Also starting when we get back playing is the out of bounds on 18 will be gone and it will play as a lateral hazard. The out of bounds behind 8 green and to the right of 9 will also be played as a lateral hazard. The only out of bounds left on the course will be the woods and parking lot right of 8 fairway. When we get up and running, we will do our very best to meet and exceed our mem-bers and guest needs. Thank you in advance for your understanding and patience. Let’s do our part to be safe, responsible and respectful to our members, employees, the Elks and to ourselves.

? Until we know when golf can be played, these outings are postponed.

ALL GOLF temporarily postponed

–NOTICE– The golf tournament schedule on the left will be revised once the Lodge gets the okay that the Michigan Gov-enor’s Stay-at home Executive Order has been lifted. In the meantime, stay home and stay safe!

Technology has given us brand new devices in recent decades, like smartwatches, tablets, and voice assistant devices. With these devices, we can do things like trans-fer money instantly and make purchases for everything from clothes, food delivery, groceries, furniture, and more. Technology has changed how we entertain ourselves, meet each other, and consume all types of media. It’s made fun advancements, but it’s also made important advancements in safety when it comes to home security and medical devices. Especially for seniors, these devices are providing the freedom to age in place, to live independently, and to continue moving through everyday life with peace of mind. It opens up new opportunities by helping with safety, mobility and connectiv-ity. Medical advancements have made it so you can stay proactive with conditions like diabetes and arthritis. With new medical alert devices, seniors can also get help at the push of a button and keep in touch with loved ones no matter where they are in the world. Since there are so many new technologies to keep track of, it can seem overwhelm-ing to adapt. However, all of these new technologies are designed to make your life easier. Even though it may not feel intuitive, learning how to use smart phones, smartwatches and voice assistants just takes a little bit of instruction and practice. When it comes to the way we communicate overall, modern technology has had a powerful influence. The Port Huron Elks Lodge has strived to keep up with modern technology and now in these times of the COVID-19 we have to create a way to keep our Lodge going and various events on time such as Installation of Officers. Enter Skype! Skype is for connecting with the people that matter most in your life and work. It’s built for both one-on-one and group conversations and works wherever you are – via mobile, PC, Xbox and Alexa. Skype messaging and HD voice and video calling will help you share experiences and get things done with others. With Skype, you can have meetings and create great things with your workgroup, share a story or celebrate a birthday with friends and family, and learn a new skill or hobby with a teacher. It’s free to use Skype – to send messages and have audio and video calls with groups of up to 50 people! On Saturday, March 28, 2020 Port Huron Elks Lodge 343 was able to keep their event of Officer Installation a reality by using Skype to install the new Lodge Officers for the year 2020/2021. As soon as the Stay-at-home is lifted for the State of Michigan by the Governor and we can have a Lodge Meeting, the new Officers will be presented with their various Officer Jewels.

Port Huron Elks Lodge keeps up with the times

It’s not easy staying home-bound for weeks I think staying home has been the toughest thing I have ever had to do in my lifetime. I get so antsy, but I must say, my drawers are all cleaned out and I have a great start on my spring cleaning right on schedule with spring for the first time in a lot of years. Although it takes me much longer than it used to accomplish things at home, I’m still getting them done one by one. But how boring it is to say the least I was thinking about going on a pub crawl and how much fun they used to be so I put a bottle of beer in several rooms and started on my way until I remembered that I do not drink anymore! So I told my son, have at it! Looks like he had a great time. Couldn’t carry him to bed so I just covered him up where he was! I have played so many games on Publishers Clearing House web site that I have over 100,000,000 tokens. Do you know how many games you have to play to get over 100,000,000 tokens? LOTS!!! But the greatest thing I know is that I am doing my part of keeping away from other people to try and stop the spread of this horrible coronavirus (COVID-19). I do hope that it starts subsiding soon to give people relief from all the worry. This has had a terrible effect on every walk of life from the little kids to the great grandparents and everyone in between. Take care fellow Elks and stay safe and I’ll be seeing you all soon when this horrible thing is behind us.

Help slow the spread of COVID-19Follow these steps to help keep you and others saFe:

• Stay home if you can and avoid any non-essential travel. Avoid social gatherings of more than 10 people.• Practice social distancing by keeping at least 6 feet — about two arm lengths– away from others if you must go out in public. Stay connected with loved ones through video and phone calls, texts and social media. Avoid close contact with people who are sick.• Wash your hands often with soap and water for at least 20 seconds, especially after being in a public place, or after blowing your nose, coughing or sneezing. If soap and water are not readily available, use a hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol.• Avoid touching your eyes, nose and mouth with unwashed hands.• Clean and disinfect household surfaces daily and high-touch surfaces frequently throughout the day. High-touch surfaces include phones, remote controls, coun-ters, tabletops, doorknobs, bathroom fixtures, toilets, keyboards, tablets and bed-side tables.
