Welcome to the Legacy Sale!!

Shane & Tammy Castle

WeLCOMe TO THe 2nd AnnuAL “CAnAdiAn LegACY” SALe!

Again, it is with great pride that this catalog is presented to you. Last year’s sale was a tremen-dous success with cattle going across Canada and the uSA. The interest has been off the wallexciting with calls again coming from across Canada but also the uSA for those looking for cattlewith a different twist in pedigree but of the utmost quality. There is no settling for second best inthis game and this sale once again represents that idea.

i have been through every consignor’s herd searching for the cattle that are marketable and alsoof top quality so that we can present the cattle we do here today. As i mentioned in last year’scatalog, this isn’t to knock on anyone’s breeding program and bloodline base, but rather present anoutlet for those breeders that have focused on a Canadian base. digging deep into their herds iswhat the intention remains in putting every herd’s best foot forward. There are some terrific heifercalves that are fancy, broody and will be money makers regardless. The bred heifers are awesome, roomy females with excellent udder development and soundness to make a positive impact in anyherd. These are the Angus kind, it’s what has made this breed the “Breed of Choice”!

now for the herdbulls – we have a variety of pedigrees in these bulls yet, again, the focus beingon a sound quality herdbull prospect! Quality number one! We also are pleased to have the reservegrand Champion Bull from the iPe in Armstrong, BC, making it out to the sale. Check him out atAgribition as he will be there! The bull calves are very exciting as they all offer something a littlebit different in pedigree and kind but make the future generations of Canadian pedigreed cattlelook very bright.

On behalf of Tammy and i at Castlerock Marketing, we look forward to seeing you in Olds ondecember 10 and 11th! Feel welcome to stop in the day before the sale to evaluate the offering andenjoy some Angus hospitality. Should you be unable to attend this unique event, please feel freeto contact any of the sales staff, consignors or myself and we would be happy to answer yourquestions! We take pride in our work and your satisfaction is our first concern.

See you Sale day!!

When on my “Canadian Legacy” tour to Monte Lake, BC, home of Dan,Jeanette and Allison Speller, I am always enamored with the scenery and it got a lotbetter as soon as I saw 5Y. Right away a smile came across my face as I am ex-cited! I just stood there and watched this athletic herdbull glide over the groundwhile showing off his muscular physique. Eric 5Y is an impressive individual with a neat combination of bone, correctstructure, muscle and an Angus style head with a look about him that is pretty hardto get around. Dan mentioned then that he was thinking about taking Eric and a fewpaternal sibs to Agribition I was really excited. The intention to make the trip of 1400km is one that Dan said he always wanted to do once and this was the string that hewanted to display and show people what his cattle were like. You will be impressed in this big time herd bull! He is worth your effort to havea look at. Did I mention his moderate 81 lb. birthweight as well? HeRD BULL tIme!

We are pleased to be back at the second “Legacy” Sale with a pair of our bestbull calves. Brookside Bandolier 12U was the foundation for the Fertile Valley andJohnson Angus herds in Saskatchewan. He bred cows until he was twelve yearsold and had perfect feet until the end. Dennis Johnson states that, “He put them ina cow herd”. Prospect Bandolier 16F was a highly successful sire and note thatAngus Acres Startell 76k is also the mother of the breed legend Ronan Tex 16Swho was the sire of all the Tex bulls like “56A” at LLB and “10X” at Wicklow, glen-nie’s, and Early Sunset and many other Tex bulls. The dam of Bandolier 2Z is one of many highly productive daughters of OldPost and her mother is the outstanding mother of the bull that we took to the“Legacy” Sale last year. This bull calf has tremendous bone, flawless feet and structure, great hair andwill be a powerful herd sire.

When ”experts”talk about “balanced traits”, Bonnie Chance Bardolene 10A comes as close as itgets. His progeny have as much growth, muscle, carcass quality, structural integrityand maternal excellence as you can get consistently without compromising fertility, and functional efficiency. glen Islay Mayflower 53S also traces to Bonnie Chance Bardolene 10A on herdam’s side, and is a beautiful profile cow with a superb udder. Her dam came to usas a ten year old cow and we immediately flushed her. We still use one of her sonsby Bonnie Chance Bardolene10A. Dave and Carol waded into 38 head last fall at Remington’s dispersal and thisis one of the in-dam coupons that they clipped. 35Z was an easy find this summeron pasture with him and his dam who is a picture perfect Angus cow - deep bodied, awesome udder with a feminine build to her. For most people if you were drawing apicture of a cow…..it would look like her. Now to this strapping son of Tex 155R! He carries good frame, length, musclepattern, feet and legs in other words a solid herdbull prospect back by generationsof proven cattle, great cow families. This will be the first time to town for the gray family with purebred cattle andthey are bringing the good ones!

Lot #6 - Lsf marshall 15 75Z is our oldest ET calf from our flush of Countess283M and Coalbridge Marshall 15! 283M is also responsible for being the dam ofthe $10,000 Canuck bull that sold through the inaugural Legacy Sale to ForsythRanch and Steinley Farms. When we acquired the Marshall semen we knew rightaway that 283M was a cow that we wanted to flush to this unique Canadian bredbull. The Coalbridge Marshall line has always intrigued me and we wanted to infusethese genetics into our herd through a foundation type cow in 283M. The bull calf that resulted in 75Z is a deep bodied, correct herd bull with excel-lent lines that carries a pleasing muscle pattern and topline. Watching this youngherdbull in the pastures this summer I admired his presence and awareness in thecows in the herd showing his masculine tendencies. We feel that the combination ofgenetics lends itself to a easy doing cattle that will pass on tremendous daughtersthat should become the backbone and base of your cowherd.

Lot #7 - Lookout Countess 76Z is the resulting flushmate which strikes meevery time I see this young heifer. She carries a beautiful front end, breed characterin her feminine head and with a broodiness in her pear shaped makeup. In mymind, 76Z is the mold of what we feel an Angus female should look like. Carrying her dam’s power and backed by 283M’s production standards, wefeel that the sky is the limit in this female. The mating with Coalbridge Marshall 15 isexciting and provides a branch in bloodlines back by excellent consistency. 283M now calls Spruce View Angus her home as they picked her up last falland we will hear from her again in the future.

Here is a heifer calf that I think really leads off the pack of heifer calves for the2012 “Canadian Legacy” in a big way. 213Z would be one of the very good heifercalves I come across this summer. She carries with her a great rib cage, big widehooks over her top and a great front that connects very well with the rest of her. I believe another term that could be used is big time, a great dam for a cowand the Bond cattle are excellent. Check this sweet heifer calf out as you can have a sneak peek of her at Agribition!

Aptly carries a sire’s name of Big Deal as I think you would find this heifer tobe a “Big Deal” for her quality. Susan 51Z’s dam is also very nice and when you can match calves up withcows you think a lot of always makes a person happy. For those who were fortunate enough to tour the Ed Rene Angus herd, it is re-membered as one of the most uniform, deep bodied, good uddered herds that theyever witnessed in their life. Ed Rene Eston 4E was a long thick meat machine that was used very suc-cessfully in both the Ed Rene and Southolm herds. In 1982 Byron Brandl purchasedEd Rene Black Velvet 38P as the high selling lot in the Dividend Select Sale. Shewent on to produce for the next 18 years and amass a cow family that makes upnearly half of the Brandl Cattle Co. cowherd. Her mating to Double A Willie 11U was

perhaps her greatest feat with the resulting daughter also producing to 18 years ofage and that being the dam of BCC Black Velvet 8J. 8J is a CAA “ELITE” female and a daughter of Tomil gnemern gR 137N who wasexported to Uraguay and is still found in many of the top pedigrees in that country. Hisdaughters are some of the most productive females that can be found. 8J is the dam ofBCC Honky Tonk 46R who worked for Edmund kolesar in his Loma Lanes herd. Twoother sons were used in the Brandl herd as well as several daughters. 8J has a nearperfect udder and is still very fertile and structurally sound at nearly 14 years of age.

A straight Canadian bred bull that has highly influenced Fleury Cattle Com-pany’s program. This will be the first opportunity in Canada to invest in the ge-netics of Double AA Bardolene 50’08, one the most impressive Angus sireswalking today. Double AA 50’08 carries excellent bone, lots of mass and muscle, and hasa picture perfect foot. He is a bull that has been admired by many commercialbull buyers, breeders, and international guests. His progeny are very stylish andhe continuously stamps his calves – in last year’s bull sale his sons averaged$6700. Sons and daughters have been sold throughout Canada and the USA andhave been a big influence on the programs they’ve become a part of. The Annie k cow family are highly regarded within the Angus industry ex-celling in numerous purebred operations. 50’08’s pedigree has some of the mostinfluential Annie k cows that have ever existed. His dam, Double AA Annie k280’96, is a very recognized cow in the Angus business. She has producedmany successful herd bulls for Double AA Angus and is the grandmother to thewell known Double AA Old Post bull. We really feel we have something special and unique. We are excitedabout the progeny off of 50U and feel they are the type of cattle that the industrydemands. Here’s your opportunity to invest in a straight Canadian outcross bullthat will make a huge impact on the seed stock industry. Co-owned with Double AA Angus

Silver Dome Dynasty 19T was initially purchased in the Northern SelectSale by Lookout Stock Farm and Crescent Creek Angus. Direct sons of Dynasty2F are harder to find than a January sunburn in Saskatchewan. Dynasty hasproven his worth many times over in regards to calving ease, fleshing ability andoverall muscle. His sons are sturdy, stylish bulls that carry a presence aboutthem that is awesome. With the first daughters in the spring of 2011 at Lookout, the cattle will con-tinue to impress you. In fact, the first calf daughters of Dynasty weaned calvesthat were near the top of the pen. The daughters sport a tidy udder with wellspaced teats that will last for years. Ricky Hyland came up to the Lookout Stock Farm Dispersal last fall andwhen he saw the Dynasty 19T bull he knew right away that this bull was for him. After a hard fought battle bidding against some prominent Alberta breeders,Ricky was the winning bid at $8000. Dynasty went right to stud when he arrivedin the USA and he gained a number of friends while staying at Hawkeye West.Proven calving ease and wonderful daughters! Make sure you quiz Ricky on the qualities of the bull, better yet come to thesale and have a talk with him yourself.

Camilla Chance 37T, aka "Canadian Colossal", will go down in history as oneof the breed’s greatest sires and dominated the breed in performance and growth.“Colossal”, himself, scored a 122 weaning index and, as well, boasted a WPDAindex of 127 while on test at the Alberta Federal Provincial Program Test. Calling Riverbend Farms his first home, this foundation sire lived to the ripeage of 14 and weighed in excess of 2600 lbs. and sired over 23,000 progeny! Todaythat number would be out of this world when you think of the limited A.I. “Canadian Colossal” earned the right as a Certified Meat Sire and of one ofonly 12 bulls in the Angus breed to be proven genetic defect free. No bull could bemore fitting to have at a sale like this than one of the bulls that truly influenced thebreed in a positive manner.
